This role sits at the intersection of large-scale networking, cloud infrastructure, and software automation, supporting mission-critical systems that power one of North America’s most extensive transportation networks. You will design and operate highly available network services across hybrid cloud and distributed environments, enabling millions of transactions in real time. The position blends deep networking expertise with modern software engineering practices such as Infrastructure as Code and GitOps. You will collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to improve platform reliability, scalability, and usability. This is a hands-on technical role with strong ownership of production systems and operational excellence. It also offers the opportunity to influence architectural direction while mentoring other engineers in a highly collaborative environment.
In this role, you will be responsible for designing, automating, and operating large-scale hybrid cloud network systems that span data centers, edge environments, and public cloud platforms. You will build infrastructure using modern GitOps practices and drive continuous improvement in network reliability and scalability.
- Develop and operate cloud-native network systems and services using GitOps-based workflows
- Design, implement, and maintain hybrid cloud networking across AWS, Azure, and on-prem environments
- Build infrastructure automation solutions using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, and API-driven frameworks
- Collaborate with application and platform teams to improve infrastructure usability and developer experience
- Ensure operational excellence through monitoring, incident response, and participation in on-call rotations
- Support and evolve highly scalable systems across distributed environments and global infrastructure footprints
- Contribute to architecture decisions involving routing, switching, load balancing, and network security
The ideal candidate brings deep production networking experience combined with strong software engineering and automation skills. You are comfortable working in complex distributed systems and thrive in environments that require both technical depth and clear communication.
- 6+ years of experience in production network engineering within large-scale environments
- Strong expertise in networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, OSPF, BGP, VXLAN, etc.)
- Hands-on experience with hybrid cloud networking (AWS and/or Azure)
- Proficiency in infrastructure automation (Terraform, Ansible, or similar tools)
- Strong programming skills in Python or Go, with experience building automation tools
- Experience with Linux systems, Git workflows, CI/CD tools (e.g., GitHub Actions, Jenkins)
- Familiarity with observability tools such as Prometheus and Grafana
- Experience with networking hardware/software ecosystems (Cisco IOS, Arista EOS, SONiC, firewalls, SD-WAN, load balancers)
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work in remote, distributed teams
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience preferred
- Strong communication skills and ability to translate complex infrastructure concepts for diverse audiences

- Base salary range: $165,000 – $300,000 depending on level and experience
