About the Role

We are looking for a talented Financial Controller to join our team for delivering a first-class financial accounting service, meeting all statutory financial/reporting and taxation requirements, and leading an ongoing programme of improvement to systems, reporting and processes in line with best practice. As the 2nd In charge to the Commercial & Finance Director, they will assist with ad hoc analysis and provide support across the quarterly forecast and annual budget process.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage, mentor and empower the Financial Team including Financial Accounting, Accounts Payable, Receivable and Payroll in accordance with OUP policies and procedures
  • Assist the Commercial & Finance Director in long term planning and short-term objectives setting of the Finance team
  • Implement new working practices and managing change effectively
  • Ensure revenue assurance in relation to interbranch licensing of ANZ content
  • Responsible for the preparation and reporting of monthly accounts for ANZ in accordance with local and Group Finance requirements
  • Ensure accurate and on time completion of accounts that are prepared with adherence to financial reporting standards and Group Accounting Policies
  • Responsible for monthly reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts with variances reviewed and concerns reported to Commercial & Finance Director
  • Fulfil statutory requirements including Accounts, External Audit and ATO Lodgements
  • Represent OUPANZ with important third parties including, bankers, auditors, copyright agency, customers, and government statutory authorities
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders regarding analysis and interpretation of financial information including, senior management team and departmental heads
  • Represent ANZ Finance on key projects and initiatives actively contributing and leading the way to successful completion
  • Ensure strong cash flow and working capital management and adherence to Treasury policies, such as FX Hedging, Cash and Liquidity, and Overseas Counterparty

About You

Essential:

  • Qualified accountant and a member of either CA or CPA
  • At least 5 years of experience in managing a team, with proven track record of leadership, change management, tight control, and service delivery
  • At least 8 years of experience in a senior financial accounting role
  • Up-to-date understanding of financial reporting standards, tax and GST legislation
  • In-depth understanding of financial accounting systems (ideally SAP), with an inherent interest in how systems work and how accounting entries are generated
  • Understanding of internal controls, and commitment to compliance
  • Extensive experience of projects, acting as Subject Matter Expert and/or project lead
  • Demonstrable ability to partner with staff in the business, negotiating SLAs and working together to implement changes in processes
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff at all levels of seniority and across different cultures
