Job Description
The Protective Services Training Officer (PSTO) is responsible for the development, coordination, delivery, documentation, and evaluation of all training programs for the Protective Services Department. This position ensures that all Protective Services personnel maintain the knowledge, skills, certifications, and competencies required to perform their duties safely, professionally, and in compliance with hospital policies, state regulations, accreditation standards, and industry best practices.
The PSTO serves as a member of the Protective Services Command Staff and provides leadership, operational guidance, and supervisory support to departmental personnel. The Training Officer assumes supervisory authority, as directed by the Director of Protective Services, and functions within the department's chain of command above the Lead Officer. The PSTO ensures Lead Officers are effectively carrying out assigned responsibilities while assisting with departmental decision-making, planning, and operational readiness.
In addition to departmental training responsibilities, the PSTO develops and delivers safety and security education for hospital employees to ensure compliance with organizational policies and regulatory agency requirements. This position also maintains critical departmental records, oversees security-related administrative systems, administer the department's body-worn camera program, manages security alarm system, assists with daily security operations, and responds to incidents as needed to ensure the safety and security of patients, visitors, employees, and CRMC property.
The Protective Services Training Officer is expected to exemplify the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, accountability, and service. This position serves as the department's subject matter expert for training and professional development while fostering a culture of safety, continuous learning, operational excellence, and customer service throughout the organization. The PSTO is a key member of the Protective Services Command Staff and plays a critical role in preparing personnel to respond effectively to routine operations, critical incidents, and organizational emergencies.
Education: High School Diploma. Post secondary education/experience in criminal justice preferred.
Certifications:
State of Tennessee Private Protective Services State Certified Trainer - Required
State of Tennessee Armed Security Guard License - Required
CPR/AED Adult, Child, Infant - Required
Additional Certification Details
• State of Tennessee Armed Security Guard license required.
• Must be willing and able to attain the following certifications:
o State of Tennessee Private Protective Services State Certified Trainer certification,
o Taser Instructor certification,
o Firearms instructor certification, and
o all other instructor certifications required by the Director of Protective Services.
• Obtain IAHSS Supervisory certifications within the first 12 months of accepting the position.
• CPR/AED and First Aid certifications required within 90 days of employment.
• If designated and assigned by director a valid driver’s license would be required which includes:
• No more than 2 Minor Violation or at fault accident in the past 12 mos. or 3 in the past 3 years.
• No major violations I the past 3 years
• No suspended, expired, revoked, or other status indicating the driver is not licensed.
• No inexperienced drivers having less than 3 years operating the vehicle type they are driving.
