Welcome Home to Baxter Health’s 31-bed Cardiac Step-Down Unit. We are a family of highly-skilled caregivers, who provide optimal care to a diverse patient population. Our patient’s conditions range from low acuity to critically ill. We work together to treat individuals with cardiac acuities such as arrhythmias, congestive heart failure, hypertensive emergencies, and myocardial infarction. Our patient population also includes those with respiratory emergencies requiring Bi-PAP, aggressive pulmonary physiotherapy, and high-level monitoring. In addition, we also interface with patients facing a multitude of acute and chronic disease processes. The 4 South Step Down Team is excited and ready to welcome you to our family!

SUMMARY: This position is filled by a patient care technician who, as a result of educational and clinical experience, possesses the knowledge and clinical skills necessary to provide direct patient care. Ensures quality focused and cost-effective care delivery outcomes; functions within a collaborative practice to enhance quality of care; and participates in continuous quality improvement activities.
Responsible and accountable for basic patient care, timely notification to appropriate staff on completion of patient care and for patient status changes on the assigned shift under the direction of a licensed nurse. Responsible for adhering to all standards of patient care and promoting a team effort among co-workers. Responsible and accountable to know, own, and energize the mission, values and standards of the hospital.

Required to work with the Nurse Director regularly to carryout, initiate and/or implement best practices.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education: High School diploma or equivalent or minimum score of Bronze on the Career Readiness Certificate (“CRC”).
Experience: No experience required. Applicants with no experience will be required to complete a residency program.
Certification: Current Arkansas nursing assistant certification preferred; BLS required.
Other: Ability to read, write and communicate effectively. Basic computer knowledge required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to perform the following: Must have the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, to solve problems and make decisions. Ability to stand, walk, bend, squat, and twist up to or exceeding 8-12 hours. Occasionally requires lifting of 50 pounds or more of equipment, able to push in excess of 150 pound wheelchair with patient and equipment, and occasionally lifts patients with assist 125 pounds or more using proper body mechanics. Spends eight hours or more in front of computer, monitor or similar screen utilizing keyboard and/or mouse. Must be able to respond quickly in emergency situations such as CPR and obtaining equipment. Must be able to handle critical and highly stressful situations with efficiency and composure. Has a keen sense of hearing and keen visual acuity to respond to critical changing patient situations from actual observations and/or equipment alarms. May be subject to inside environmental conditions, hazards (including electrical currents and exposure to high heat and chemicals) and infectious diseases. May have to function around prisoners or those in behavioral health crisis.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a position in a hospital setting which is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Potential for work on rotating shifts. Holiday and work during inclement weather will be required. You may be asked to work longer hours and assignments may change during your shift. Floating to other areas is occasionally required based on hospital needs. Seasonal call shifts are required.
