Job Description

Beacon Health System is hiring a Full-time Night shift Registered Nurse for our Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Beacon Kalamazoo in Kalamazoo, MI.

Type: Full-Time (36 hrs/wk)

Shift: Nights

Shift Details: 7:00pm - 7:30am; every 3rd weekend and holiday

About Beacon Kalamazoo

Beacon Kalamazoo provides 24/7 emergency care and a Level II Trauma Center. We deliver care for serious life-threatening injuries/illnesses, and your everyday health needs, including labor and delivery. We offer specialty care for heart/vascular disease, lung and sleep disorders, mental health conditions, and women’s health. We offer a wide range of outpatient services, including diagnostic imaging, lab tests, respiratory therapy and rehabilitation therapy services.​  

What You'll Do

As an Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurse, you'll report to the Director or Manager to provide professional nursing services in the area of assignment, assess the needs of patients, and initiate, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care. You will collaborate with other professional, clinical, and ancillary staff in providing compassionate and quality care to patients.

Intensive Care Unit RN Job Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with the patient, family, and healthcare team, participates in open discussion to identify mutual goals based on the nursing assessment and diagnosis.
  • Diagnoses, treats, and evaluates the human response to actual or potential health problems and needs.
  • Evaluates the outcomes of the nursing plan of care and revises it as necessary.
  • Assesses, detects, monitors, and works to prevent complications associated with health situations or treatment plans.
  • Notifies the physician of patient condition and response to nursing intervention appropriately, and documents this action.
  • Ensures patient pain is assessed, treated, reassessed, documented, and evaluated.
  • Delegates to other licensed and unlicensed care providers based on clinical nursing judgment and the skill of the care provider.

What You Bring

As a Registered Nurse, you'll bring a high level of knowledge and competency in performing nursing care procedures, assessments, treatment, and techniques, and your advanced analytical skills are necessary to solve complex problems and make decisions related to patient care. You demonstrate the interpersonal skills necessary to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, patients, visitors, physicians, and others. You demonstrate the ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing, in a clear and concise manner. You have an understanding of the need to be responsive and reasonably adaptable for scheduling purposes, when necessary, due to extenuating circumstances in support of co-workers and department functions.

Required Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited nursing program; Associate of Applied Science in Nursing (AAS) or RN Diploma required at start date
  • Registered Nurse license in the state of Michigan, obtained within 90 days of hire or transfer date
  • BLS Provider certification from the American Heart Association (AHA), obtained within 30 days of hire or transfer date
  • Advanced Life Support certification from the American Heart Association (AHA), obtained within 12 months of hire or transfer date
  • 1 year of current critical care experience required (candidates with less experience may be considered if no qualified applicants apply)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
