Opportunity
The Department of Orthopedic Surgery & Rehabilitation at the University of Texas Medical Branch invites applications and nominations for the position of Chief of Adult Reconstruction (Academic Rank of Associate Professor or Professor). This is an exceptional opportunity for an accomplished orthopedic surgeon and academic leader to guide the continued growth and development of a premier Adult Reconstruction program within a historic and nationally recognized academic medical center.
The successful candidate will be an outstanding clinician, educator, researcher, and leader with a demonstrated commitment to advancing the field of hip and knee arthroplasty. The Chief will have the opportunity to shape the strategic vision of the Adult Reconstruction at UTMB, recruit and mentor faculty, expand clinical services, advance innovative research, and develop educational programs that distinguish our department nationally.
This position is particularly well suited for an individual who is ready to move beyond an outstanding personal clinical practice and assume a broader role in building programs, developing people, and defining the future of Adult Reconstruction.

Leadership Opportunity
The Chief of Adult Reconstruction will work closely with the Chair of Orthopedic Surgery & Rehabilitation and departmental and institutional leadership to establish and execute a strategic vision for the division. Key priorities will include:

• Building a modern, efficient Adult Reconstruction service that is patient-focused and collaborative with other services through the entire episode of care
• Expanding the clinical program to meet the growing needs of the region while maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety, efficiency, and patient experience.
• Providing leadership to establish clinical, academic, and educational priorities.
• Building a collaborative, high-performing team of faculty, advanced practice providers, residents, and staff.
• Developing a nationally recognized referral center for complex primary and revision hip and knee arthroplasty.
• Recruiting and developing outstanding faculty with complementary clinical and academic expertise into future national leaders in arthroplasty.
• Advancing clinical, translational, and/or basic science research in areas such as arthroplasty outcomes, implant technology, robotics, navigation, infection, revision surgery, optimization of the arthroplasty patient, and value-based care.
• Building fertile ground for successful launch of an Adult Reconstruction fellowship within the UTMB system.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

The successful candidate should have a demonstrated record of mentorship and a genuine interest in developing future leaders in Adult Reconstruction.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• MD or equivalent medical degree.
• Board certification or eligibility in Orthopedic Surgery.
• Fellowship training in Adult Reconstruction/Adult Reconstructive Surgery.
• Substantial experience in primary and revision hip and knee arthroplasty.
• A strong record of clinical excellence.
• Demonstrated academic productivity through peer-reviewed publications, presentations, research, and/or other scholarly accomplishments.
• A commitment to graduate medical education.
• Demonstrated leadership and mentorship skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
• Eligibility for medical licensure in Texas.
