Sustainability Engagement Coordinator

Engr-Sustainability - Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh - (26003259)

This position supports the Mascaro Center for Sustainable Innovation’s (MCSI) community centered sustainability initiatives, including outreach, partnership development,communications, and program logistics. The role cultivates and sustains relationships with nonprofits, community-based organizations, government partners, and regional stakeholders to co-create impactful sustainability programs.
As the lead for MCSI’s external engagement, this position coordinates initiatives that connect partners with sustainability-focused academic and research programs, student groups, and applied and service-learning opportunities. The role also collaborates with the University-wide Sustainability team and campus partners to expand Pitt undergraduate and graduate student participation in community-engaged sustainability efforts and increase access to experiential learning opportunities. This includes engaging K-12 students through outreach programs that build early awareness and interest in sustainability.
This position reports to the Co-Director of the Mascaro Center for Sustainable Innovation and works closely with MCSI faculty leadership. It partners with colleagues across the University including Sustainability, Global, Engagement and Community Affairs, Student Affairs, the Honors College, and others – to advance Center engagement and partnership goals.

Job Summary

Assists with overall execution of comprehensive community engagement plans. Engages with the community at events and as a liaison for the University. Assists in developing a community engagement calendar, logistics of community events, and preparing grant proposals. Trains and mentors' staff and others regarding the community program and activities.


Essential Functions

community at events and as a liaison for the University. Assists in developing a community engagement
calendar, logistics of community events, and preparing grant proposals. Trains and mentors' staff and
others regarding the community program and activities.

• Assists in planning, developing, and executing comprehensive community engagement plans.
• Maintains a continual presence at community events, faith-based organizations, and meetings
with community stakeholders.
• Serves as a liaison between the community and University through meetings, phone calls, and
online correspondence.
• Develops engagement workflow integration strategies and an engagement calendar of community
events in collaboration with staff and providers. Assists with logistical planning of community
events and identifying volunteers.
• Trains staff, interns, volunteers, and community ambassadors and amplifiers on the program.
Provides community engagement mentoring to staff participating at community events to ensure
messaging is consistent across community engagement activities.
• Assists in preparing and submitting grant proposals and manuscripts and preparing additional
written reports.
