EPRI’s Underground Transmission Program aims to assist utilities in resolving challenges related to design, construction, installation, operation, and maintenance of underground transmission systems. Cross-cutting research addresses issues such as design calculations, cable ratings, construction and installation methods, inspection technologies, and forensic analyses.
This role supports EPRI’s research efforts focuses on the full lifecycle of extruded and laminar dielectric cables and accessories, including design, operation, maintenance, aging, and end‑of‑life considerations. The Underground Transmission Staff/Researcher 1 will contribute to applied research and technical analysis under the guidance of senior engineers and project managers, working closely with internal EPRI staff and supporting industry‑facing projects
Key Responsibilities and Requirements:
Conduct technical searches and analyze technical information in support of the project team.
Assist with research activities as directed by the project or task manager, including data collection, testing support, and documentation
Compile findings and contribute to technical reports, presentations, and internal documentation
Collaborate with EPRI technical staff and, as needed, interact administratively with EPRI members
Perform assigned work under general supervision while developing technical proficiency and familiarity with EPRI research processes
Education & Knowledge:
Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field or equivalent experience required.
Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Material Science preferred
Foundational understanding of electrical systems and engineering principles
Ability to analyze technical information and communicate findings clearly in written and verbal formats
Ideal Candidate:
Interest or prior experience in power engineering or transmission
Fundamental knowledge of electricity
Experience analyzing data and composing reports or summarizing from finding
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established technical procedures
Willingness to learn and grow within a collaborative, research-focused environment

The salary range for this position is $73,000 USD to $78,000 USD annually.This salary range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on various factors, including without limitation applicant's education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant's geographic location.This role is eligible to participate in EPRI’s annual incentive program. The amount of incentive varies and is subject to the terms and conditions of the plan.This role is eligible to participate in EPRI’s standard employee benefit programs, which currently include the following: medical, dental, vision, 401k, STD/LTD and paid family leave, life and accident insurance, paid time off (flexible vacation, sick leave, and holiday pay).EPRI participates in E-Verify, an online system operated jointly by the Department of Homeland Security and the Social Security Administration (SSA).
