This role is centered on shaping and elevating a unified visual identity across a mission-driven higher education institution. You will act as both a hands-on designer and a creative leader, responsible for translating institutional values and strategic priorities into compelling visual storytelling. Working across marketing, admissions, and academic teams, you will ensure that design consistently enhances engagement, perception, and experience for diverse audiences including prospective students, alumni, faculty, and partners. You will also guide freelancers and external agencies, ensuring creative outputs are cohesive, high-quality, and aligned with brand standards. This position combines strategic brand stewardship with execution across multiple formats and channels, including digital, print, and experiential design. It is ideal for a designer who thrives in both conceptual thinking and production-level excellence within a collaborative environment.
In this role, you will lead the development and execution of the institution’s visual design strategy, ensuring alignment with brand and marketing goals. This includes:
- Defining and evolving visual identity systems, guidelines, and design standards across all channels
- Translating institutional priorities into compelling creative concepts across print, digital, and experiential formats
- Producing high-quality design work across campaigns, presentations, events, and digital platforms
- Directing freelance designers and coordinating with external agencies and vendors to ensure brand consistency
- Collaborating cross-functionally with marketing, enrollment, and academic stakeholders to align creative output with strategic objectives
- Contributing to long-term brand development while identifying opportunities to improve visual storytelling and engagement
The ideal candidate brings strong experience in visual design and brand development, along with the ability to lead creative execution in complex environments. You should have:
- 5+ years of professional design experience with a strong, portfolio-driven background
- Bachelor’s degree in design, visual communications, or a related field
- Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) and familiarity with tools like Canva
- Proven experience leading or directing freelance designers, contractors, or agencies
- Strong understanding of accessibility standards and inclusive design principles
- Ability to translate complex ideas into clear, impactful visual storytelling across multiple channels
- Excellent communication, presentation, and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Experience with motion design, web design, or AI-enhanced creative workflows (strong plus)
