Job Description
The Digital Content Manager is required to input, upload and administer the digital content which is displayed within the ‘Navigate app’, and on plasma screens and ‘Way-finders’ onboard a specified Marella Cruise Ship. The department consists of a team of Entertainment Hosts, Production Cast Members, a Technical Manager and team of Technicians, a Children’s Host Team, as well as a Musical Director and team of Resident Musicians.
In addition to all resident Crew/Officers within the Entertainment Department, fly on/off Guest Entertainers will also join the department’s complement each week.
Working mainly alongside the Assistant Cruise Director who is responsible for the scheduling and programming of events, activities and shows, you must ensure that the daily ‘Cruise News’ and all digital signage and the onboard app are kept up to date with daily programmes, advertising and menu changes. Supporting other departments with revenue generation via the advertising mediums, is also a vital part of your role. You will also support the Entertainment Technical Manager and Assistant Cruise Director with daily tasks such as operating Cinema movies, supporting the creation of the Cinema schedule and uploading files for pool deck screen usage.
Responsibilities
Octopus (Digital Content Programme) - Entertainment
To advertise and promote the entertainment package and onboard events/activities via the ‘Navigate’ app and ship-wide digital signage, whilst adhering to brand standards at all times.
To input and update the daily activity timetable via the digital content system.
To run daily passenger feedback reports and send to the distribution list.
To perform screen takeovers for various special one-off events.
Octopus (Digital Content Programme) – Restaurants
To regularly change and update the restaurant menus displayed on the ship’s ‘Way-finders’, as required by the F&B Manager.
To ensure restaurant opening times are continually updated and correct.
To liaise with F&B and shore side support to display restaurant specials and advertisements.
Octopus (Digital Content Programme) – Concessions
To create playlists for the advertising slides, ensuring variety and relevance to the area of the ship.
To recognise the need for adaptation of the advertising, to suit the current itinerary and demographic; react where necessary.
To update venue/outlet opening timings on the system, as instructed by the ship’s revenue partners.
To liaise with the shore-side support mediums, when new advertising and signage is required, and in turn upload these to the system.
Entertainment Team support
To host two, Navigate App help desk drop-in sessions on embarkation day at reception (for the benefit of new passengers).
To assist the Broadcast Manager in the playing of Cinema movies and editing of ship videos (if skills allow).
To create a daily pool deck schedule for the pool deck screen and upload it to the pool deck system to be played each morning.
Assist the Entertainment and M Club Hosts with passenger facing embarkation and disembarkation duties if assistance is required by this team. Tasks may involve check-in, meet & greet duties and cruise terminal assistance, dependent on individual skills.
Other digital and admin duties and tasks to support the entertainment offering, as required by the Assistant Cruise Director and Cruise Director.
Cruise News
Whilst inputting information into the ship’s app, to also extract the day’s activity and entertainment information from the ‘Entertainment Layout’ (supplied by the Assistant Cruise Director) and copy/input this information
into the daily ‘Cruise News’ (passenger daily newsletter) via Microsoft Publisher. Overall responsibility for collating and inputting text/adverts into the Cruise News from other departments. Once inputted and formatted, to send this to the Assistant Cruise Director each morning for them to proof and submit for printing.
Other
To ensure your appearance and grooming guidelines remain as outlined in the crew handbook are maintained, at all times (this is a uniformed role).
Personally, and alongside members of the Entertainment Team, assist the hotel operation on challenging days; with gangway assistance and crowd control (ad hoc).
Interface with the ship’s Management Team.
To uphold the standards set out in your training.
A position of onboard responsibility will be held with regards to emergency procedures, guest mustering and drills (full training received on board).
Experience & Skillset
- The Digital Content Manager should hold strong administration and computer skills, with the ability to learn the on-board CMS (content management system).
- A good command of the English language, both verbal and written.
- Professional experience in either digital marketing or administration.
- A good knowledge of the cruising industry and the family leisure market.
- Experience of revenue promotion.
- Expertise in photography, branding or video editing an advantage.
- Ability to work autonomously.
- Proactive in devising and pitching projects to management around improving the passengers’ digital experience onboard and elevating revenue opportunities for concession partners.
Task List:
In no particular order, but completed as per the needs of the business and
ship’s daily operation:
• Regularly checking emails and responding to/actioning requests.
• Updating of daily activity and entertainment timetable (changes over @ Midnight)
• Morning, afternoon & evening checks of all digital signage – checking for IT issues, incorrect text placement and appropriateness of content. Report any IT issues which cannot be rectified yourself, to the ship’s IT Team.
• Updating of restaurant menus and timings, as per the requests of the F&B Manager and Restaurant Manager/Head Waiters.
• Updating of Broad Street Shops timings and/or promotions – liaise with Shop Manager.
• Creating and scheduling the daily activities from entertainment and adverts – Photo Gallery, Shops, Salon, Casino, Bars etc. Regularly seeking new promotion opportunities.
• Hiding of previous day’s activities and adverts in Octopus.
• Reviewing adverts and highlights and liaise with TUI HQ and the Hotel Director to put together updates and amendments which are needed.
• Creation of playlists for screens around the ship – regularly changing these.
• Liaise with Destination Services for weekly updates of their slides.
• Updating the ‘Meet the Team’ module as and when required (Officer changeovers).
• Updating daily gangway signage (AOB times etc) – prior to arrival each day/evening before.
• Daily ‘What’s on Tonight’ slide – outside BCC – update with evening’s show.
• Based on the Cruise Layout/Entertainment Planner, liaise with both the ACD and BCM and create a pool deck screen daily schedule – ensuring movies, daily TV show, live camera work (for large pool formats), Virtual Band, holding slides/logos and other relevant platforms are scheduled in a balanced way each day, covering all operation hours (creating variety for passengers and avoiding repetition).
• Pull and send out (as per the distribution list) the daily Navigate feedback report.
• Partake in embarkation/disembarkation duties in the cruise terminal on changeover days. Liaise with the Senior Entertainment Host for duties requiring manning.
• Partake in passenger drills and all safety training, as per the ship’s emergency procedures.
• As a member of the Entertainment Department, please remain flexible to assist the Cruise Director where required, in supporting the operation with digital media.
• Take full ownership of the digital content around the vessel and build the role of DCM, producing a handover manual for future reliefs.
