Job Description

SUMMARY: Queens University of Charlotte’s Athletics is an NCAA Division I program distinguished by its commitment to transforming the lives of its students and consistently competing at the highest possible levels. The Royals joined the ASUN Conference on July 1, 2022.

Former graduate assistants (GA) and interns have used their learning and practicing experiences with the Royals to land jobs with organizations such as the Carolina Panthers, Charlotte Hornets, USA Triathlon, USA Swimming, and Ally to name a few.

This is a 2-year, 20 hour/week graduate assistant position that reports directly to the Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing, Ticketing, and Sponsorships. The GA position begins on June 1, 2026. The successful candidate must be enrolled as a full-time graduate student at Queens University of Charlotte. There is no expressed or implied commitment to a paid position upon completion of the internship. This role is eligible for tuition remission for up to six credit hours per semester and a stipend. No housing is offered.

This position is considered a Responsible Employee for purposes of the university’s Sexual Misconduct Policy. As such, this position is required to report any incident of sexual misconduct or interpersonal violence to the university’s Title IX Coordinator when made aware of such.

Queens conducts confidential background investigations on candidates as part of the hiring process, including any past NCAA rules violations. According to the NCAA bylaws:

“Contractual agreements or appointments between a coach and an institution shall include the stipulation that a coach who is found in violation of NCAA regulations shall be subject to disciplinary or corrective action as set forth in the provisions of the NCAA enforcement procedures, including suspension without pay or termination of employment for significant or repetitive violations.”

Duties and Responsibilities

This is a great opportunity to enhance an individual’s skillset across multiple areas, including marketing, fan engagement, social media, and ticketing. The graduate assistant for these areas will learn and practice how to assist the Assistant Athletic Director of Facilities and Events with strategic methods of planning, organizing, communicating, and executing Queens athletic events.

Areas Learning and Application:

  • Learn and practice all facets of game-day event planning and implementation.
  • Learn and practice promotional campaigns and initiatives for all athletic events
  • Learn and practice event preparation including marketing set up and tear down and constructing game day scripts.
  • Learn and practice content creation on social media for athletic events and marketing initiatives.
  • Learn and practice the ability to generate graphics and digital content for athletic events, social media and Queens Sports Network.
  • Learn and practice implementation and execution of strategic initiatives directly tied to ticket sales at home athletic events.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in communications, business, sport management or related area of study
  • Must be a current, full-time graduate student at Queens University of Charlotte
  • Strong communication, planning, event management, organization, and writing skills.
  • Strong follow‐up skills as well as plan, organize and control projects to completion.
  • Highly organized, detail oriented, and exceptional verbal and written communication

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of and prior work experience in intercollegiate athletics
  • Previous experience with marketing, event operations and/or sponsorship activation roles
  • Knowledge of Daktronics software system (will be required to learn and practice during early training)
  • Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop (will be required to learn and practice during early training)
