Job Title: Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) Technician

Reports To: Service Manager

Department: Service

Store: Kia

SUMMARY

The Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) Technician is the final quality-assurance gate before a customer receives a new or used vehicle. This role requires maintaining detailed records of inspections and repairs, adhering to manufacturer checklists, and ensuring compliance with all safety standards.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Performs work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards.
  • Diagnoses vehicle problems based on customer complaints and inspection.
  • Test-drive vehicles, and test components and systems, using diagnostic tools and special service equipment.
  • Diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing vehicle automotive systems including engine, transmission, electrical steering, suspension, brakes, air conditioning, etc.
  • Communicate with parts department to obtain needed parts.
  • Communicate directly with Service Advisors so that customers are informed if additional service is required; and provide an estimate of time needed for additional repairs, if any.
  • Executing repairs under warranty to manufacturer specifications.
  • Documents all work performed and recommended on the repair order.
  • Reports machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisor.
  • Ensures that customers' cars are kept clean.
  • Mount items like floor mats, wheel locks, cargo nets, and splash guards.
  • Notifies service advisor immediately of anything that has happened to change the appearance or condition of the vehicle.
  • Maintains and is accountable for all dealership-owned tools and manuals.
  • Understands, keeps abreast of, and complies with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Reports any safety issues immediately to management.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or the equivalent
  • ASE certification preferred with NYS inspector’s license
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record
  • Road-testing vehicles may be required
  • Vocational/technical training in automotive technology or prior workshop experience is a plus.
  • Previous Kia factory training is preferred
  • General mechanical skills with manual dexterity
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
