Job Purpose: We are seeking a detail-oriented, highly organized Lab Management Technician to oversee and operate our busy on-site primary care laboratory. In this role, you will be responsible for both direct patient care (phlebotomy and specimen collection) and the operational management of the lab, including quality control, inventory tracking, and regulatory compliance.You will act as the vital bridge between our primary care providers, our patients, and external reference laboratories to ensure accurate, timely diagnostic results that directly impact patient care.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lab Operations & Management: Maintain daily laboratory operations, including equipment calibration, troubleshooting, quality control monitoring, and logging temperature and maintenance records.
- Patient Care & Phlebotomy: Perform safe and accurate blood draws (venipuncture), fingersticks, and other diagnostic collections (urinalysis, swabs) for patients of all ages.
- Specimen Processing: Prepare, label, centrifuge, and package specimens for transport to external reference laboratories according to strict handling protocols.
- Compliance & Quality Assurance: Ensure the laboratory strictly adheres to CLIA, OSHA, HIPAA, and COLA regulations. Manage the clinic's Point-of-Care Testing (POCT) quality assurance programs.
- Inventory & Ordering: Manage lab inventory, track expiration dates, and order reagents, kits, and phlebotomy supplies to prevent clinical disruptions.
- Data Management: Accurately enter lab orders and results into the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and Laboratory Information System (LIS).
- Certification: Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA/CMA), or Clinical Laboratory Assistant (CLA) certification preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting, with proven experience managing lab inventory or quality control protocols.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Solid understanding of CLIA waived/moderate complexity testing rules and OSHA safety standards.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with Electronic Health Records (EHR) and processing laboratory orders.
- Soft Skills: Excellent time-management skills, high attention to detail, and a compassionate bedside manner for nervous patients.
