Events Team Staff Writer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Events Team Staff Writer based in United States.

This role offers an opportunity to produce accurate, timely, and accessible journalism focused on elections, political events, and stories that shape public outcomes. You will join a fully remote editorial team dedicated to researching complex political developments and presenting essential facts in a clear and neutral way. The position combines deep research, fast-moving news coverage, thoughtful writing, and rigorous editorial standards. You will monitor breaking developments, update existing articles, and develop new coverage when emerging events require it. Success in this role requires strong judgment, exceptional organization, and a commitment to accuracy, completeness, and impartiality. Accountabilities
  • Research and write clear, concise, and engaging articles covering elections, political developments, government activity, and events affecting political outcomes.
  • Produce strong introductions and ledes that quickly communicate the most important elements of complex political stories.
  • Build, manage, and maintain assigned articles in accordance with established editorial standards, writing guidelines, and quality expectations.
  • Monitor breaking news and political developments daily, using sound editorial judgment to determine when and how articles should be updated.
  • Respond quickly to emerging news by researching and developing new articles when timely coverage is required.
  • Conduct extensive research using media outlets, political websites, official government sources, databases, and direct outreach to relevant individuals and organizations.
  • Apply rigorous fact-checking, proofreading, and research practices to ensure published information is accurate, complete, and current.
  • Contribute to newsletter products and other editorial initiatives designed to provide readers with useful political and election information.
  • Develop and maintain detailed procedural checklists and documentation to support consistent and efficient editorial workflows.
  • Communicate project progress and potential challenges clearly with managing editors and other team members.
  • Learn and consistently apply established frameworks for identifying and maintaining neutrality and avoiding bias in political coverage.
  • Collaborate professionally with colleagues, external contacts, customers, and members of the media.
  • Seek, receive, and incorporate editorial feedback to continuously improve the quality and usefulness of published work.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, solve problems proactively, and introduce more efficient approaches to research and content production.
Requirements
  • Demonstrated passion for providing accurate, relevant, and unbiased information about politics, elections, and public policy.
  • Strong knowledge of the U.S. political system and interest in political developments at federal, state, and local levels.
  • Professional or academic experience in writing, editing, journalism, political research, communications, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to write about complex topics clearly, neutrally, accurately, and concisely.
  • Strong research skills, including the ability to design effective research methods and work across multiple information sources.
  • Experience working with databases and spreadsheets.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, proofreading ability, and familiarity with editorial style guides.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments, prioritize work effectively, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced editorial environment.
  • Interest in or experience using AI tools to improve research, writing, and editorial productivity.
  • Strong critical-thinking and analytical skills, with sound judgment when evaluating information and determining what is most relevant to readers.
  • Comfortable receiving constructive feedback and using it to improve work and editorial outcomes.
  • Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively with colleagues across multiple departments.
  • Demonstrated flexibility, curiosity, self-awareness, and willingness to continuously learn and improve.
  • Proactive approach to identifying problems, improving workflows, and developing innovative solutions.
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace, Slack, and Asana is helpful.
  • Must have a computer with reliable internet access and be authorized to work in the United States.
  • A résumé, cover letter, and neutral writing sample of fewer than five pages are required as part of the application process.
Benefits
  • Starting salary of $42,500–$44,000, commensurate with experience.
  • Annual benefits stipend equivalent to $8,000, paid through regular paychecks once benefits eligible.
