Job Description

BASIC FUNCTIONS

  • The Mechanical Technician III is a senior field machining and mechanical specialist responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing complex mechanical projects with minimal supervision.
  • Provides technical leadership to Mechanical Technicians and Assistants while ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality execution.
  • Scope includes cold cutting and beveling, flange facing/re-facing, line boring, pipe transitioning, pump base milling and alignment, bolting, torquing, tensioning, hydro testing support, advanced troubleshooting, and field machining project coordination.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • 7+ years of mechanical, machining, or field service experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of field machining and mechanical repair processes.
  • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring capability.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, procedures, and technical specifications.
  • Strong planning, troubleshooting, customer service, and decision-making skills.
  • Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Journeyman Machinist or equivalent industrial trade certification is an asset.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

  • Reports to Supervisor, Field Superintendent, Operations Manager and/or Director of Mechanical Services
  • Provides technical direction, mentorship, and work coordination to Mechanical Technicians and Mechanical Assistants.
  • Acts as field lead on assigned projects and serves as a key client contact.

AUTHORITY

  • Lead assigned projects and field activities.
  • Coordinate daily crew activities and workflow.
  • Review work readiness and safety requirements.
  • Recommend operational improvements and equipment needs.
  • Escalate technical and operational concerns to management.

RESPONSIBILITIES - TOP FIVE

  • Lead execution of complex field machining and mechanical projects.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and mentoring to technicians and assistants.
  • Coordinate project planning, setup, execution, and demobilization.
  • Maintain strong client relationships and communication.
  • Promote safety, quality, and operational excellence.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct site assessments, walkdowns, and field measurements.
  • Support Operations with technical input, estimates, and proposal development.
  • Review permits, job packages, and execution plans.
  • Track project documentation, reports, labor, and equipment usage.
  • Support incident investigations and continuous improvement initiatives.

DUTIES

  • Perform advanced machining, cutting, beveling, facing, boring, alignment, and milling operations.
  • Lead equipment setup, alignment, and operational verification.
  • Perform bolting, torquing, tensioning, and hydro testing support activities.
  • Conduct field-level risk assessments and review hazards with crew members.
  • Coordinate project resources, tools, and materials.
  • Communicate project status, scope changes, and field conditions with Operations and clients.
  • Review and receive permits as required.
  • Complete detailed job reports, timesheets, and project documentation.
  • Mentor junior technicians and verify work quality.
  • Inspect, maintain, and support improvement of company equipment.

HEALTH AND SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead by example in all safety matters.
  • Ensure compliance with company and site-specific safety requirements.
  • Use and enforce proper PPE requirements.
  • Report near misses, hazards, and incidents and participate in investigations.
  • Promote a culture of continuous safety improvement.
