Job Description

About the Role:

The Graphic Design & Marketing Coordinator is responsible for producing the University's visual communication materials, completing layout and design, overseeing publishing, and maintaining the University website. Graphic design, photography, and website updates are core functions of this role, with additional contributions to broader digital content creation. This is a highly collaborative role that works closely with other members of the marketing team as well as staff, faculty, and students throughout the University.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Graphic Design & Photography (Core Function):

  • Managing the University's brand identity.
  • Developing and creating graphic design materials to support the University's brand and institutional goals.
  • Providing graphic design services for and overseeing the production of marketing and communication materials to support the recruitment of students and advancement opportunities.
  • Coordinating the layout, design, photography, and production of University publications, marketing and communication collateral, and social media content.
  • Producing photography for University publications, marketing collateral, and social media, serving as the primary photographer for campus events and institutional needs.
  • Editing photo content for use across print, digital, and social platforms.
  • Capturing photo and video content as needed, such as for events or social media.
  • Generating templates and mastheads with a consistent institutional style for use with all University publications.
  • Revising and monitoring the University's identity guidelines.
  • Coordinating outside vendors for bid quotes on projects.

Website (Core Function):

  • Owning day-to-day content updates for the University website, ensuring pages are accurate, current, and consistent with brand and identity guidelines.
  • Coordinating with departments across campus to gather, edit, and publish website content in a timely manner.
  • Monitoring the website for outdated content, broken links, or inconsistencies and coordinating corrections.

Communications Support:

  • Assisting with communications that support the recruitment and retention of students at Briar Cliff University.
  • Contributing story ideas and drafting stories about employees, students, and alumni.
  • Serving as a backup for social media content creation and posting, stepping in to support the primary social media lead as needed.
  • Supporting the monitoring of social media performance to help increase positive reputation and engagement.
  • Assisting with the planning and production of regular email communications.
  • Contributing to digital content plans and strategy.
  • Providing writing, photography, and events support.
  • Assisting with the distribution of marketing and promotional materials.
  • Availability for evening and weekend work is required to support major University events, such as Homecoming, student move-in, and similar large-scale events.
  • Performing other duties as assigned or apparent.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Internships, student workers, graduate assistants, and ambassador opportunities within the marketing department.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to work well with team members and employees in other departments, and must be able to respectfully receive and provide feedback, as this is a highly collaborative position. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree required. Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud is required, with strong working knowledge of InDesign and Illustrator. Experience with video editing, including Premiere Pro or similar software, is a preferred skill.

Prior professional experience in graphic design, photography, and/or website content management preferred. Experience in different areas of writing and communication, i.e., press media, web, social media, memos, etc., is preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to analyze data.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, and talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, as well as photography equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

The noise level in the work environment is moderate. This role occasionally requires evening and weekend hours to support University events, and may require travel to on-campus and off-site locations to capture photography and, on occasion, video content.


Full-time salaried position with regular business hours and occasional evening and weekend responsibilities.
