SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
The Food Service Worker is responsible for preparation and cooking of meals.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Preparation of all food in sufficient quantities to cover all service requirements, timing preparation to meet service schedules, and food handling in accordance with regulations.
- Maintain clean work areas and equipment.
- Adhere to food safety regulations
- Attends in-service training and education sessions, as assigned.
- Wash and put away dishes.
- Properly store groceries.
- Replenish silverware, cups and condiments as needed.
- Performs specific work duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY
- Must have effective communication skills, both oral and written.
- Have the ability to promote a courteous, calm atmosphere.
- Be able to work cooperatively with other departments within the system.
- Show the ability to demonstrate initiative by actively seeking additional duties, as well as accepting and performing all other duties as assigned.
- Possess knowledge of and implement infection control and universal precaution practices.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Have a High School diploma/GED preferred.
PERSONAL AND PUBLIC CONTACT
The Food Service Worker will have personal contact with all levels of staff, patients, visitors, and government agencies.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL CONDITIONS
The Food Service Worker must be able to lift up to and over 100 lbs., move, and transfer resident as needed (10%). The position requires bending (10%), stooping (10%), crouching (10%), walking (30%), pushing (10%), pulling (10%), and the ability to climb at least 8 flights of stairs. The physical demands of the position are frequently extreme and require the highest level of concern for personal and resident safety. May occasionally be subject to physically or mentally violent residents. There will be some disagreeable odors, blood borne, and air borne pathogens present. Senses must be intact or correctable to acceptable levels and be mentally alert.
EQUIPMENT USED
The Food Service Worker will use the following equipment: various medical equipment utilized in the care of patients, computer and various computer programs, copy machine, fax machine, and telephone usage.
OSHA TASK CATEGORY I
Tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues.
COMPLIANCE
Responsible for abiding by all policies and procedures to include the Code of Ethics and the principles and standards set forth for conducting business and affairs.
Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA)
The Food Service Worker will be responsible for abiding by all policies and procedures relating to HIPAA.
