Standard Bent Glass is looking for a hands-on Mechanical Engineer to join our Engineering team in East Butler, PA.
This position focuses on designing and developing mechanical components and assemblies, with an emphasis on sheet metal fabrication, welded assemblies, and manufacturing processes. The Mechanical Engineer will work closely with Engineering, Fabrication, Welding, and Production to develop practical, cost-effective designs that meet customer requirements and can be successfully implemented on the manufacturing floor.
This is a hands-on engineering position. We're looking for someone who understands how things are built and is comfortable moving between CAD design, engineering drawings, and the manufacturing floor to troubleshoot problems and improve designs.
What You'll Do- Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies using SolidWorks.
- Create and maintain detailed engineering drawings, including dimensions, tolerances, weld symbols, and material specifications.
- Develop designs with a focus on manufacturability and assembly, particularly sheet metal and welded fabrication.
- Work closely with manufacturing, fabrication, welding, and production teams to develop practical, cost-effective designs.
- Reverse engineer existing parts and assemblies using physical components, measurements, and field information.
- Select appropriate materials, hardware, manufacturing processes, and fabrication methods.
- Support prototype development, testing, troubleshooting, and production implementation.
- Review and resolve manufacturing issues involving fit, function, tolerances, welding, and assembly.
- Collaborate with suppliers and fabricators on manufacturability and production requirements.
- Develop engineering documentation, including bills of materials, work instructions, routings, and other technical documentation.
- Participate in design reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure designs meet applicable quality, safety, performance, and customer requirements.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- At least 2 years of mechanical engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with sheet metal design and fabrication.
- Understanding of weldments and welding specifications.
- Proficiency with 3D modeling software and mechanical design and drafting tools.
- Strong understanding of tolerances, materials, and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to interpret and create detailed engineering drawings.
- Practical understanding of fabrication processes, including laser cutting, punching, bending, machining, and welding.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work effectively with manufacturing and production personnel.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- U.S. citizenship required.
- Experience with SolidWorks preferred.
- Experience with reverse engineering components and assemblies preferred.
- Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and tolerance stack-ups preferred.
- Experience with CAM software and G-Code troubleshooting is a plus.
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems preferred.
