Job Description
HVAC Technician
$99,840 - $104,000 a year
Akicita Federal is hiring HVAC Mechanics to install, maintain, and repair complex heating, cooling, and ventilation systems in support of the Department of Veterans Affairs North Texas Veterans Health Care System in Dallas, TX. This is hands-on, mission-critical work that directly supports the comfort, safety, and well-being of veterans receiving care at a major medical facility.
- Install, operate, repair, and maintain a wide range of refrigeration, air conditioning, heating, and ventilation systems throughout the medical center from small domestic units to large central systems up to approximately 500 tons
- Inspect HVAC equipment on a routine basis and perform both major and minor repairs to keep hospital systems running reliably
- Troubleshoot refrigerant leaks, service compressors, and adjust mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic controls to maintain optimal system performance
- Chemically treat water systems associated with HVAC equipment to prevent corrosion, scaling, and biological growth
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals to guide installation and repair work
- Diagnose complex system failures independently and develop effective solutions with minimal supervision
- Occasionally direct and oversee helpers or junior technicians on assigned tasks
- At least 4 years of journeyman-level trade experience in refrigeration and air conditioning
- Active journeyman HVAC/refrigeration mechanic license (must be licensed at time of hire)
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with commercial or industrial HVAC equipment, including systems up to 300 HP and large central chilled-water or refrigeration systems
- Ability to read and interpret technical blueprints and mechanical schematics
- Physical ability to perform heavy lifting, sustained physical exertion, and work in confined or cramped spaces
- Ability to work safely in environments with exposure to hazards including electrical shock, burns, and extreme temperatures both indoors and outdoors
What sets candidates apart:
- Prior experience working in a hospital, medical center, or other large healthcare facility HVAC environment
- Familiarity with VA or other federal agency facility operations and safety protocols
- Experience with pneumatic control systems in addition to electrical and mechanical controls
- EPA Section 608 Universal certification for refrigerant handling
- Track record of independently managing complex troubleshooting scenarios on large central plant systems
