About The Role
The Federal Way Per Diem Medical Assistant plays a key support role in delivering high-quality patient care on an as-needed, hourly basis. In this position, you will work closely with providers, nurses, and administrative staff to ensure efficient patient flow, accurate clinical support, and a positive experience for every patient. This per diem role is ideal for a flexible, detail-oriented Medical Assistant who is comfortable stepping into various clinical and front-office tasks, including phlebotomy, point-of-care testing (POCT), rooming patients, and handling check-in procedures.
What You'll Do
- Perform patient check-in, verify demographics and insurance information, and ensure completion of required forms and consents
- Room patients efficiently, obtain and document vital signs, medical history, medications, and chief complaints in the electronic medical record (EMR)
- Perform phlebotomy, including venipuncture and specimen collection, labeling, and handling in accordance with clinical and laboratory protocols
- Conduct point-of-care testing (POCT) following established procedures, maintain quality control logs, and document results accurately
- Prepare exam rooms before and after visits, ensuring they are clean, stocked, and compliant with infection control standards
- Assist providers during examinations, treatments, and minor procedures as directed and within scope of practice
- Support patient workflow by coordinating with front desk, nursing, and provider teams to minimize wait times and improve visit efficiency
- Provide patients with clear instructions regarding follow-up care, tests, and procedures as directed by providers
- Maintain accurate, timely, and thorough documentation in the EMR for all clinical tasks performed
- Handle telephone and in-person inquiries professionally, relaying messages and information to providers and team members as needed
- Adhere to all clinic policies, safety guidelines, and regulatory requirements, including OSHA and HIPAA
- Demonstrate flexibility in working per diem/variable shifts, including covering for staff absences or high-volume periods as needed
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or equivalent training
- Minimum of 1 year of recent Medical Assistant experience in an outpatient clinic, physician office, or similar healthcare setting
- Demonstrated proficiency in phlebotomy, including venipuncture and specimen handling
- Experience performing point-of-care testing (POCT) and documenting results accurately
- Hands-on experience with rooming patients, obtaining vitals, and documenting history and chief complaint in an EMR system
- Experience with patient check-in, registration, and basic front-office workflows
- Current Medical Assistant certification/registration (or eligibility), as required by state or employer standards
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) or CPR certification, or ability to obtain within required timeframe
- Strong communication skills in English, both verbal and written
- Excellent customer service skills and a professional, compassionate demeanor with patients and families
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced clinical environment
- Flexibility to work an hourly, per diem schedule, including variable days and shifts based on clinic needs
- Proficient with basic computer skills and comfortable learning and using electronic medical record (EMR) systems
- Reliable transportation to the Federal Way location and ability to report as scheduled for per diem shifts
