Position Summary

The Materials Manager will provide strategic leadership and oversight of all manufacturing and supply chain activities to ensure the cost-effective production and timely delivery of high-quality products. The Materials Manager will work closely with Sales and Production Management to develop and manage forecasts for long range material planning while considering current inventory, obsolescence, lead times, product life cycles and production capacity. This role is focused on managing schedules and coordinates the efficient replacement of component parts to satisfy customer demand. Analyzes and revises production plans and provides appropriate delivery dates as required. Works with other departments to ensure customer satisfaction. Analyzes and reports on actual customer demand, trends and forecasts, and adjusts capacity plans accordingly. The Materials Manager will work closely with the Warehouse Manager to monitor daily inventory control activities, obsolescence, lead times, product life cycles and production capacity.

The Materials Manager will have several Roles and Responsibilities including, but not limited to the following:

  • Develop, deploy, and ensure adherence to policies and procedures for all supply chain activities including purchasing, planning, warehousing, order fulfillment, and logistics
  • Create a strong and efficient materials organization that coordinates effectively with other functions while continuing to improve overall performance results for the company
  • Develop and implement actions needed to achieve corporate and division strategic goals, including cost reductions, quality improvements, supply chain flexibility and reliability, alternate low-cost sourcing, lead-time reductions and inventory turns improvements
  • Oversee all supply chain aspects for new product development and operationalization.
  • Ensure talent assessment, development, training and hiring across the supply chain team is effective to grow capabilities and support the succession planning requirements
  • Provide leadership to fully leverage the ERP system capabilities across the business including all purchasing, planning, buying, MRP, SIOP, forecasting, and data management
  • Participate as a key member of the Operations management team. Collaborate well with other managers and functions to improving overall business performance
  • Responsible for establishing forecast processes, maintaining short- and medium-term production and inventory plans
  • Translate projected forecasts, incoming volume, and work scopes into a production plan with a time-phased build schedule
  • Work with customer base to determine weekly inbound forecast and develop consumption models to improve accuracy
  • Acts as manufacturing liaison to Sales/ Marketing as to updates and commitments on work orders completed status, as well as product shipments
  • Responsible for developing Production (Build) plan based on demand requirements from actual Sales Orders. Translates the build plan into firm work orders to drive MRP
  • Schedule demand based on the product mix and provide accurate commitment dates to customer service team across multiple product lines
  • Responsible for coordinating and executing the Production Plan with Manufacturing and Shipping Teams for timely and accurate completion. Provides daily Dispatch List (Production Schedule) for implementation
  • Assemble master schedule reporting regarding performance to the business plan, the shipment plan, the inventory plan, and the production plan
  • Provide input to finance on operating plans for the sales and operations planning (S&OP) process, concerning incoming volume and capacity
  • Establish key performance indicators of forecast accuracy. Ensure the interaction of a firm’s functional managers, and track and maintain the forecast through timely and accurate feedback
  • Works closely with Purchasing to ensure raw materials support of the Production plan and provides timely feedback to Sales/Marketing for any deviation from original expectation
  • Manage load leveling and bottleneck scheduling and utilize theory of constraints (TOC) for more accurate scheduling
  • Coordinate information with other functional staff, including customer service, engineering, operations, and accounting
  • Understand capacity management relationship to MRP. Work with work center input and output loading. Establish, measure, monitor, and adjust capacity levels to execute all manufacturing schedules.
  • Determine available capacity before planned orders are released
  • Aid in development/updating of written inventory control program
  • Execute formalized inventory procedures and manage inventory transactions
  • Work with Inventory Control team in conducting and monitoring all cycle count programs ensuring consistency and accuracy
  • Work with Inventory Control team in Identifying/ analyzing operational problems related to cycle count inventory and identify root causes
  • Work with Inventory Control team as Key Process Leader of the annual physical inventory
  • Coordination with Inventory Control team of the annual physical inventory with all departments
  • Monitor and ensure accuracy of all inventory transactions and maintain records of all stockroom locations
  • Train team members in all inventory control processes in a/w manual and update processes as needed.
  • Manage all inventory transactions and provide required feedback to Production Control and Finance team
  • Responsible to compile and distribute daily reports and other requested information in a timely manner
  • Identifies, prioritizes, develops, and implements cross-functional inventory control process improvement projects that include forward-thinking on project introduction/development/implementation
  • Develops and implements strategies to simplify process, improve accuracy, and improve operating efficiency
  • Provides appropriate direction and support to team members to ensure effectiveness and efficiency of inventory controls systems and procedures
  • Excellent organizational, verbal and written communicational skills
  • Able to develop rapport and relationships with all levels of employees
  • Ability to quickly adapt to current conditions and to multi-task efficiently and effectively
  • Will perform duties in both office and Manufacturing plant environment
  • Must perform all work in accordance with all applicable safety procedures
  • Able to work Overtime based on production requirements
  • Other duties and responsibilities as required
Requirements:
  • 3-7 years’ experience in Global multi-operations supply chain management in high volume assembly and large-scale fabrication operations
  • 3-5 years’ Mid Level experience in leading materials organizations and effectively deploying and overseeing materials management processes and activities to include analyzing complex data and working with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced distribution operations environment
  • 3+ years overseeing large inventories and audit procedure
  • JD Edwards ERP preferred
  • APICS/ASCM – CPIM Certification a plus
  • Software/Technical Skills (Intermediate)
  • MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PPT)
  • Warehouse Management System Knowledge
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact with all levels of the organization as well as professionally represent the company to outside parties
  • Ability to foster and build relationships with cross-functional team members throughout the organization.
  • Ability to effectively explain and interpret organizational policies and procedures
  • Superb skills in problem solving and critical thinking with attention to detail and follow-up
  • Ability to work as needed, particularly during high volume periods, to ensure that departmental objectives are accomplished
  • Capacity to apply a good understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions; deal with problems involving variable in standardized situations; understand fundamental flow of shop material and its problems or material handling
