About the Job

The Senior Data Product Engineer role has a significant impact on the organization by ensuring that our data infrastructure is scalable, secure, and aligned with strategic priorities. This role enables reliable access to high-quality data, supports the development of data products, and improves the organization’s ability to make timely, evidence-based decisions. By strengthening our Azure-based platform (Cotton Cloud), the role reduces data silos, enhances operational efficiency, and lays the technical foundation for future use cases. It also fosters collaboration across functions, drives adoption of data tools, and contributes to a stronger, more mature data culture across the organization.

The Challenge

Looking ahead to 2030, we are targeting reducing GHG emissions from cotton production by half, big cuts in synthetic pesticide use, improve soil health across our network, improve farm income and support women’s empowerment among farmers and farm workers.

As a Senior Data Product Engineer, you will be responsible for:

Responsibilities

1. Design, Develop, and Maintain Data Infrastructure

Design, build, and maintain scalable, secure, and efficient data pipelines, storage layers, and system integrations on Azure.Develop and optimise data architecture to support current reporting requirements as well as future analytical and business intelligence use cases.Ensure the reliability, performance, and maintainability of the organisation’s data platform through robust engineering practices, monitoring, and continuous optimisation.Support the development of reusable data products and curated datasets for downstream consumption by analytics and business teams.

2. Technical Leadership, Data Enablement, and Literacy

Provide technical leadership across the data team by establishing and promoting engineering standards, development best practices, and scalable design patterns.Guide data analysts and other data users on data models, business definitions, and best practices for using data effectively and consistentlyContribute to building data literacy across the organisation by improving understanding of platform capabilities, data structures, and usage principles.Act as a subject matter expert on data platform design and engineering practices, supporting the long-term maturity of the data environment.

3. Stakeholder Collaboration and Solution Design

Work closely with data analysts, product teams, and business stakeholders to understand data needs and translate them into scalable technical solutionsCo-create, refine, and maintain high-quality datasets that directly support critical business dashboards, reporting, and analytical tools.Partner with stakeholders to define requirements, prioritise data solutions, and ensure that outputs are aligned with business objectives and user needs.

4. Consultant Collaboration

Act as the primary point of contact for external consultants supporting data platform and product development.Oversee consultant deliverables to ensure alignment with internal technical standards, quality expectations, and project timelines.Facilitate issue resolution, clarify requirements, and ensure smooth coordination between consultants and internal stakeholders.

5. Platform Visibility and Adoption

Promote internal awareness and adoption of Cotton Cloud (organisational data warehouse) by supporting onboarding, user guidance, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.Contribute to the development of technical documentation, usage guidance, and platform communication materials to improve accessibility and user confidence.Support teams in understanding available data assets and how to use them effectively for reporting and decision-making.

6. Governance, Quality, and Compliance

Ensure the platform adheres to data governance requirements, including data quality, privacy, security, lineage, and access controlsImplement and maintain controls to improve trust, consistency, and compliance across the data lifecycle.Work with relevant stakeholders to ensure data products and infrastructure align with organisational standards and regulatory requirements

7. Continuous Improvement and Innovation

Identify opportunities to improve platform performance, engineering efficiency, and overall user experience.Evaluate and adopt new tools, approaches, or capabilities that strengthen the data platform and respond to evolving business needs.Drive a culture of continuous improvement by recommending enhancements in architecture, tooling, automation, and support processes.

Experience

A degree in Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent work experience).At least 7 years of relevant data engineering experience.Proficiency in ETL, SQL, and a programming language such as Java, C#, or C++.Hands-on experience with Azure Data Factory, GitHub CI/CD, and relational/NoSQL databases.A track record of building and delivering data solutions on Azure.Understanding of BI tools and practices, and ideally experience with Power BI and Salesforce.

Working arrangements
