Job Description
Minimum Qualifications:
High School graduate or GED; no experience is required.
***Must have a valid Texas driver's license and be able to operate a UTMB vehicle.
Preferred Qualifications:
Associate's degree in environmental, natural, or applied science, or related field, and/or 6 months of related experience.
Job Summary:
Provides basic technical assistance in the administration of policies, standards, and regulations relating to environmental health and safety under general supervision.
Job Duties:
Primarily works in the Fire and Life Safety group of the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) department, responsible for ensuring that fire safety equipment is compliant as well as performing facility inspection services for Life Safety. Will also periodically work with other groups within EHS as needed to accomplish common goals.

- Coordinates work duties within program areas and with contractors.
- Provides technical support on safety assignments within established time frames.
- Performs calibration, inspection, or testing of safety equipment.
- Assists in the development and delivery of safety training programs.
- Assists in the development and implementation of new/improved work processes.
- Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.
- Performs related duties as required.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of environmental health & safety regulations
- Ability to inspect, test, monitor, or measure safe environmental levels
Working Environment/Equipment:
- Standard hospital, clinical, laboratory, and/or office environments.
- Potential exposure to hazardous conditions and/or materials. May involve strenuous activity such as walking, lifting, and moving of material. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as respiratory protection, chemical-resistant clothing, etc.
- Standard office equipment and equipment used to ensure safe environmental levels.
- May be required to pass the "Basic Radiation Safety in the Laboratory" course within the first 6 months of employment.
- May be required to achieve or maintain 24- or 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations certification according to 29 CFR 1910 requirements within the first 6 months of hire.
