Position Title: Part Time | Seasonal Server Assistant

Location: The Palm Springs Surf Club

Reports To: Restaurant Manager

Overview:

The Seasonal Server Assistant at The Palm Springs Surf Club plays a crucial role in supporting the front-of-house staff during events by ensuring the dining and service areas are clean, organized, and stocked. As a vital member of the team, the Server Assistant helps facilitate the flow of service by clearing tables, delivering food and beverages to guests, and assisting servers with their tasks to ensure that each event runs smoothly. This role requires a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

This position is seasonal and expected to be available through Sept or Oct 2026. It may be extended upon agreement by employee and employer.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Event Setup & Preparation:
  • Assist in setting up banquet spaces, including arranging tables, chairs, and linens, ensuring that all service stations are properly stocked.
  • Help set up food and beverage areas, including buffet stations and drink stations, ensuring they are organized and replenished throughout the event.
  • Ensure all service tools and materials, such as trays, utensils, and napkins, are in place for efficient service.
  1. Table Maintenance & Cleanliness:
  • Clear dirty dishes, glasses, and utensils from tables promptly and efficiently to ensure the dining area remains clean and organized.
  • Assist with the resetting of tables, including placing new table settings and arranging chairs, as needed.
  • Ensure the dining area is clean and tidy during events, wiping down surfaces and maintaining cleanliness throughout the service.
  1. Food & Beverage Runner:
  • Assist servers by delivering food and beverages from the kitchen to the correct tables or guests.
  • Ensure that the correct items are delivered promptly and in excellent condition.
  • Help with the timely delivery of drinks to guests, ensuring that beverage stations remain stocked and fully operational.
  1. Guest Interaction & Service Support:
  • Provide basic support to guests by answering questions about the event or guiding them to their seats when needed.
  • Be attentive to guest needs by refilling water glasses, replenishing drinks, or clearing away empty plates.
  • Assist servers by running food orders or delivering drinks to ensure the service remains swift and efficient.
  1. Event Support:
  • Assist the server team in ensuring the smooth flow of food service by anticipating needs and quickly addressing any service delays.
  • Support the Banquet Captain or Event Manager with any last-minute requests or adjustments to the event setup.
  • Help maintain a positive guest experience by supporting the service team with any needs that may arise.
  1. Clean-Up & Breakdown:
  • Help clear tables and break down event spaces after the event ends, including removing used linens, glassware, and decorations.
  • Ensure the proper disposal or storage of food and beverage items, adhering to health and safety standards.
  • Assist with resetting for future events by organizing and cleaning the service area.
  1. Health, Safety, and Compliance:
  • Follow all health, safety, and sanitation guidelines in food handling, cleaning, and beverage service.
  • Adhere to The Palm Springs Surf Club’s policies regarding guest safety, food handling, and cleanliness.
  • Be proactive in identifying and addressing any safety or sanitation issues that may arise during the event.
  1. Communication:
  • Communicate effectively with servers, kitchen staff, and other team members to ensure smooth service during the event.
  • Report any issues or concerns with service, guest feedback, or event logistics to the Banquet Captain or Event Manager.
  • Maintain open communication with the team to ensure all tasks are completed and that the event proceeds as planned.

Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Previous Experience:
  • Experience in a restaurant, banquet, or event setting is required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks at once.
  • Customer Service Skills:
  • Friendly, approachable demeanor with a focus on providing excellent service to guests.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work well with others.
  • Teamwork:
  • Ability to work collaboratively with servers, bartenders, event staff, and kitchen teams.
  • Willingness to assist others in a team-oriented environment to ensure event success.
  • Attention to Detail:
  • Strong attention to cleanliness and organizational skills, with the ability to keep service areas tidy and well-stocked.
  • Physical Stamina:
  • Ability to stand, walk, and carry heavy items for long periods during events.
  • Capable of lifting up to 25 pounds and carrying trays or other service materials.
  • Availability:
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, as most events occur during these times.
