General Position Summary

The Appraisal Assistant is selected by the Department Supervisors and is expected to be a self motivated individual who supports appraisers by performing tasks in an organized and efficient manner. The role requires the ability to learn various work processes and maintain written procedures in an orderly fashion. Responsibilities include auditing changes entered by an appraiser as well as researching information and addressing inquiries through correspondence, phone calls, and in office interactions. The Appraisal Assistant works under the direct supervision of a Senior Appraiser and collaborates closely with both appraisal and clerical staff.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Review and enter land and improved property sales for various properties throughout the year.
  2. Verify the accuracy of real, commercial, and business personal property records, including exemptions and mobile home accounts.
  3. Assist with processing building permits and submitting appraiser changes through the system.
  4. Audit all value changes made by an appraiser.
  5. Assist with collecting and maintaining income data from surveys and subscriptions and track monthly hotel/motel receipts to produce annualized figures for each property.
  6. Manage all aspects of the Protest process including setup, reschedules, settlements, and board orders, as well as handling Appointment of Agent and Revocation of Agent forms.
  7. Review returned mail and make or verify necessary name and address changes.
  8. Generate reports and letters from preconfigured templates.
  9. Help cover Switchboard and Front Counter as needed to maintain quality customer service.
  10. Be willing to aid other employees in the daily work that is necessary in the operation of the Appraisal District.

Education and Experience

Applicant must have a high school diploma or equivalent.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. Must earn an acceptable score on the five skill tests: Numerical, Alphabetical, Name Checking, Number Checking, and Number Facility.
  2. Possess knowledge of modern office practices, including working proficiency in Microsoft Office and Excel.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to accept responsibility and adapt positively to changing situations.
  4. Be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, management, and the public.
  5. Work effectively in a team environment.
  6. Perform any additional duties necessary to support the goals of the Appraisal District.
