Job Description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Technical Director based in the United States.
This is a senior technical leadership role responsible for shaping and delivering a next-generation AI-driven digital product at scale. You will guide the architecture and execution of a complex, real-time system built around multi-agent generative AI and stateful user interactions. The environment is highly collaborative, involving close partnership with engineering, design, product, and client stakeholders. You will step into a partially established architecture and lead it through scaling, refinement, and production launch. The role requires balancing deep technical authority with pragmatic delivery leadership in a fast-moving, experimental space. You will act as the key bridge between strategic vision and engineering execution, ensuring both technical excellence and product impact. This is a high-visibility role with significant influence over system design, team direction, and user experience.
In this role, you will own the technical direction and execution of a highly complex, AI-native platform, ensuring the system scales effectively while maintaining performance, reliability, and user experience quality. You will guide a multidisciplinary engineering team and act as the senior technical authority across architecture, delivery, and client-facing technical strategy.
- Define and evolve the technical vision across a distributed, real-time system built on GCP, including Cloud Run, Firestore, and Cloud SQL.
- Lead architectural decisions across frontend, backend, and AI orchestration layers, ensuring scalability, maintainability, and performance.
- Oversee the development of a stateful, multi-agent generative AI system with real-time user interaction and evolving session memory.
- Guide engineering execution by identifying risks early, shaping scope, and ensuring sustainable delivery timelines.
- Mentor and unblock a senior engineering team across frontend, backend, and AI disciplines, actively participating in agile ceremonies.
- Ensure high standards of code quality, system reliability, accessibility, and frontend performance across Angular-based applications.
- Act as a technical bridge between engineering, design, strategy, and production to translate AI capabilities into product and UX decisions.
- Collaborate with client stakeholders and executive technical leadership to align on system design and delivery strategy.
- Establish and promote best practices for AI-augmented engineering workflows using modern tooling and development practices.
The ideal candidate is a senior technical leader with deep full-stack expertise and proven experience delivering complex distributed systems, particularly those involving AI or real-time architectures. You combine architectural rigor with hands-on engineering credibility and strong cross-functional communication skills.
- Proven experience as a Technical Director, Principal Engineer, or Architect leading complex, multi-disciplinary engineering teams.
- Strong full-stack expertise across frontend and backend systems, including TypeScript and JavaScript, and backend development in Python.
- Deep experience with modern frontend frameworks such as Angular (preferred), React, or Vue, including advanced state management and performance optimization.
- Strong background in designing and deploying scalable systems on GCP, including microservices, containerized architectures, and database design (SQL/NoSQL).
- Experience with DevOps practices, Infrastructure-as-Code (e.g., Terraform), monitoring, and production system reliability.
- Hands-on experience building or scaling generative AI systems, including multi-agent architectures, orchestration, and latency considerations.
- Strong understanding of system design principles, security, and distributed systems operations at scale.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience working in delivery-focused environments with visibility into timelines, budgets, and technical risk management.
- Familiarity with AI-augmented engineering workflows and tools (e.g., LLM-assisted development environments).
- Strong leadership mindset with the ability to guide teams through ambiguity while maintaining execution quality and pace.
- Contract rate: $113–$130 per hour (W-2)
- Full-time salary range: $150,000 – $180,000 per year
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance (full-time employees)
- 401(k) with employer matching
- Unlimited PTO plus company-wide closures (full-time employees)
- Home office and wellbeing monthly stipend
- HSA employer contributions
- Professional development stipend
- Paid parental leave
- Flexible remote work arrangements across the United States
- Benefits eligibility for contractors where applicable by law and policy
