Accountabilities:

The Transmission Planning Manager will lead consulting engagements related to power system studies, ensuring technical excellence, client satisfaction, and successful project delivery. This role requires strong engineering leadership, project management skills, and the ability to support business growth initiatives.

  • Manage consulting engagements focused on power system studies for transmission interconnection projects.
  • Coordinate effectively with clients, project stakeholders, and internal engineering teams.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and oversight to junior engineers performing power system modeling and analysis.
  • Review and support transmission planning studies, ensuring accuracy, quality, and alignment with project objectives.
  • Participate in business development activities, including identifying new opportunities and supporting proposal preparation.
  • Contribute to project scopes, technical approaches, schedules, budgets, and execution strategies.
  • Maintain knowledge of industry advancements, emerging technologies, and evolving power system applications.
  • Support the development of innovative solutions to address complex transmission planning challenges.
  • Lead technical discussions and provide expertise to clients and project teams.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate is an experienced power systems engineering leader with extensive transmission planning expertise and a strong background in consulting or utility environments. They should have demonstrated experience managing teams, delivering technical studies, and working with industry-standard power system analysis tools.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent relevant industry experience.
  • Minimum of 12 years of relevant engineering experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience leading teams of power systems engineers.
  • Experience performing load flow and contingency analysis to identify transmission thermal constraints, voltage limitations, and transfer capability limits.
  • Experience with electromagnetic transient analysis using PSCAD.
  • Experience using transmission planning software such as PSS/E, PSLF, or TARA for load flow modeling, contingency analysis, and stability studies.
  • Strong understanding of power system planning methodologies and transmission engineering practices.
  • Excellent project leadership, communication, and client relationship management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple consulting projects and coordinate technical teams effectively.
  • Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering preferred.
  • Experience with stability analysis, critical clearing time assessments, voltage constraint analysis, and power system damping studies preferred.
  • Experience with short circuit analysis tools such as CAPE or ASPEN preferred.
  • Knowledge of power regions and ISOs/RTOs including PJM, MISO, NYISO, ERCOT, SPP, CAISO, WECC, SERC, or ISO-NE preferred.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages such as Python or JavaScript is a plus.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
