Senior Mechanical Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer based in Canada.

This role offers the opportunity to contribute to major electric power projects by providing advanced mechanical engineering expertise and technical guidance.
The successful candidate will support project development, conceptual design, and owner’s engineering services for complex energy infrastructure initiatives.
You will apply your engineering knowledge to evaluate systems, optimize solutions, and support critical decisions throughout project lifecycles.
Working with multidisciplinary teams and clients, you will influence technical outcomes through design reviews, assessments, and engineering recommendations.
This position is ideal for an experienced engineer who enjoys solving complex challenges and applying innovation to improve project delivery.

Accountabilities:

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will provide technical leadership and engineering expertise across power generation projects, supporting clients through design, evaluation, and project execution activities.

  • Perform conceptual design, engineering assessments, and technical evaluations for electric power generation projects and facilities.
  • Provide owner’s engineering support, technical due diligence, and design review services for clients.
  • Review mechanical systems and engineering designs for conventional power projects, ensuring technical quality and compliance.
  • Support project development activities, including technical evaluations, risk assessments, cost analysis, and contract development.
  • Evaluate mechanical systems associated with power generation technologies, including gas turbines, combined cycle projects, steam systems, coal-fired generation, and reciprocating engines.
  • Develop technical recommendations and communicate engineering findings clearly to clients and project stakeholders.
  • Support project decision-making through engineering analysis, documentation, and technical reporting.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver effective and cost-conscious engineering solutions.
  • Lead and support the adoption of modern engineering tools, automation practices, and AI-enabled workflows to improve efficiency and reduce rework.
  • Guide engineers using automation approaches such as scripting, data analysis, and digital tools to enhance engineering processes.
  • Participate in project activities requiring travel within North America and internationally as needed.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate brings extensive mechanical engineering experience within the electric power industry, strong technical expertise, and the ability to communicate complex engineering concepts effectively.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from a Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board-accredited program or a US ABET-accredited program.
  • 10+ years of experience in the electric power industry.
  • Strong experience with detailed mechanical design of conventional power generation projects.
  • Experience supporting projects involving simple cycle gas turbines, combined cycle facilities, coal-fired generation, steam systems, or reciprocating engines.
  • Experience with conceptual design, project development support, and engineering evaluations.
  • Strong technical writing, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Experience with technical due diligence, owner’s engineering reviews, or power plant performance evaluations is an asset.
  • Understanding of power station operations, process design, and international engineering codes and standards is an asset.
  • Experience with economic analysis, cost evaluation, or contract development is an asset.
  • Ability to use modern engineering tools and support automation initiatives is an asset.
  • Familiarity with programming or scripting tools such as Python, MATLAB, or advanced Excel is an asset.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently in a remote environment.
