Job Description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Sr. Designer, Structural based in United States.
This senior-level design role focuses on creating highly detailed, fabrication-ready structural and mechanical designs for heavy industrial equipment and high-temperature ducting systems. The position plays a critical part in developing large-scale hot exhaust and flue gas ducting solutions used in demanding industrial environments such as power generation and emissions control. It requires deep technical expertise in 3D modeling, structural detailing, and mechanical design principles applied to thermal expansion and heavy fabrication constraints. The role involves close collaboration with engineering, project management, and supply chain teams to ensure designs are accurate, buildable, and aligned with project requirements. Acting as both an individual contributor and technical mentor, the designer supports peers while independently owning complex design packages from concept through fabrication. This is a highly technical, detail-driven role contributing directly to industrial systems that support cleaner and more efficient operations.
- Develop complete structural and mechanical design packages including 3D CAD models, fabrication drawings, and material take-offs for heavy industrial equipment and ducting systems.
- Design large-scale hot exhaust and flue gas ducting systems, including structural casings, transitions, and related plate components for industrial applications.
- Evaluate project inputs for completeness and resolve technical gaps in collaboration with engineering, project management, sales, and supply chain teams.
- Apply structural and mechanical design principles to account for thermal expansion, load conditions, cyclic service, and high-temperature operating environments.
- Produce fabrication-ready drawings with consideration for material selection, weld configurations, constructability, and installation sequencing.
- Coordinate ducting interfaces with equipment such as SCRs, stacks, dampers, expansion joints, and other pollution control components.
- Review and validate peer design work while providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior designers and drafters.
- Manage design packages from concept through fabrication, ensuring alignment with standards, schedules, and production requirements.
Requirements:
- Associate’s degree in CAD, Drafting, Engineering Technology, or related field; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in industrial structural or mechanical design, preferably in heavy industrial or process equipment environments.
- Strong expertise in 3D CAD modeling and fabrication-ready drawing development.
- Proven experience designing large-scale industrial ducting systems, ideally involving high-temperature or flue gas applications.
- Solid understanding of geometry, material take-offs, and structural/mechanical design principles.
- Familiarity with thermal expansion behavior in large ducting or plate structures.
- Ability to independently manage complex design projects and provide practical engineering solutions with limited supervision.
- Experience with industrial fabrication practices, welding methods, and coordination of multi-system layouts.
Benefits:
- Competitive compensation aligned with senior-level industrial design expertise.
- Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance coverage.
- Retirement savings and financial wellness programs.
- Opportunity to work on large-scale industrial and environmental engineering projects.
- Exposure to advanced pollution control and emissions reduction technologies.
- Collaborative engineering environment with strong technical mentorship opportunities.
- Stable, long-term career growth within a global industrial solutions organization.
