Description:

Hospice Music Therapist

Our Mission

At Favoured Hospice, LLC, we believe that every moment matters. Our mission is to bring comfort, dignity, and connection to individuals and families navigating the final chapters of life. We see music not just as sound, but as a bridge—one that can soothe pain, spark memories, and create moments of peace. Compassion, respect, and presence are at the heart of everything we do.

The Impact You'll Make

As our Hospice Music Therapist, you will use the transformative power of music to support patients’ emotional, spiritual, and physical well-being. You will be a valued member of our interdisciplinary care team, creating personalized music experiences that reduce anxiety, ease discomfort, and foster meaningful connections for patients and their loved ones. Your work will help transform difficult moments into meaningful experiences of comfort, peace, and connection.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide individualized and group music therapy sessions in patients’ homes, assisted living communities, skilled nursing facilities, and inpatient hospice settings.
  • Assess patients’ physical, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual needs to develop individualized music therapy interventions aligned with their goals of care.
  • Utilize live music, therapeutic singing, improvisation, songwriting, guided imagery, and other evidence-based techniques to address pain, anxiety, emotional distress, and quality of life concerns.
  • Collaborate closely with nurses, social workers, chaplains, hospice aides, and other team members to integrate music therapy into comprehensive care plans.
  • Document assessments, interventions, patient responses, and care plans in the electronic medical record in accordance with hospice regulations and HIPAA standards.
  • Provide education and support to family members and caregivers, helping them use music as a meaningful tool for comfort and connection.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and contribute professional insights to patient care discussions.
Qualifications
  • MT-BC (Music Therapist–Board Certified) credential preferred or required, depending on organizational needs.
  • One to two years of experience as a musician, music therapist, or related professional preferred.
  • Experience working with individuals facing serious illness, chronic conditions, hospice, or palliative care is strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in voice and at least one accompanying instrument (such as guitar or keyboard).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build trust and rapport with patients, families, and care teams.
  • Demonstrated empathy, emotional resilience, and sensitivity to diverse cultural, spiritual, and personal backgrounds.
  • Reliable transportation and willingness to travel throughout the designated service area.
Why You'll Love It Here
  • Join a mission-driven team that values compassion, creativity, collaboration, and excellence.
  • Flexible scheduling to support work-life balance.
  • Mileage reimbursement and paid travel time between patient visits.
  • Continuing education support, including an annual professional development stipend.
  • Comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, and retirement plan options.
  • The opportunity to make a profound and lasting difference in the lives of patients and families every day.
