The Impact You'll MakeAs our Hospice Music Therapist, you will use the transformative power of music to support patients’ emotional, spiritual, and physical well-being. You will be a valued member of our interdisciplinary care team, creating personalized music experiences that reduce anxiety, ease discomfort, and foster meaningful connections for patients and their loved ones. Your work will help transform difficult moments into meaningful experiences of comfort, peace, and connection.
Key Responsibilities- Provide individualized and group music therapy sessions in patients’ homes, assisted living communities, skilled nursing facilities, and inpatient hospice settings.
- Assess patients’ physical, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual needs to develop individualized music therapy interventions aligned with their goals of care.
- Utilize live music, therapeutic singing, improvisation, songwriting, guided imagery, and other evidence-based techniques to address pain, anxiety, emotional distress, and quality of life concerns.
- Collaborate closely with nurses, social workers, chaplains, hospice aides, and other team members to integrate music therapy into comprehensive care plans.
- Document assessments, interventions, patient responses, and care plans in the electronic medical record in accordance with hospice regulations and HIPAA standards.
- Provide education and support to family members and caregivers, helping them use music as a meaningful tool for comfort and connection.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and contribute professional insights to patient care discussions.
- MT-BC (Music Therapist–Board Certified) credential preferred or required, depending on organizational needs.
- One to two years of experience as a musician, music therapist, or related professional preferred.
- Experience working with individuals facing serious illness, chronic conditions, hospice, or palliative care is strongly preferred.
- Proficiency in voice and at least one accompanying instrument (such as guitar or keyboard).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build trust and rapport with patients, families, and care teams.
- Demonstrated empathy, emotional resilience, and sensitivity to diverse cultural, spiritual, and personal backgrounds.
- Reliable transportation and willingness to travel throughout the designated service area.
