Reliability Engineer

Reliability Engineer / Classic RCM Workshop Facilitator Position Summary

The Reliability Engineer serves as a facilitator for Classic Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) Workshops supporting U.S. Navy and other Department of War programs. The position prepares, facilitates, documents, and supports closeout of RCM analyses in accordance with MIL-STD-3034 and applicable customer-approved RCM processes.

The Reliability Engineer applies reliability, maintenance, systems-engineering, and technical-analysis principles to evaluate equipment functions, identify failure-related maintenance needs, and develop recommendations to improve readiness, reliability, maintainability, safety, and life-cycle cost. The individual works with government customers, maintainers, operators, technical subject-matter experts, engineers, and analysts to produce complete and traceable RCM analysis products.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Workshop Execution: Prepare for, facilitate, document, and support closeout of Classic RCM Workshops for assigned systems and equipment.
  • Process Adherence: Apply MIL-STD-3034 and applicable customer-approved RCM procedures, templates, and analysis methods.
  • Planning Support: Support workshop planning by identifying system scope, technical-data requirements, workshop participants, schedules, pre-work, and analysis deliverables.
  • Discussion Facilitation: Facilitate or co-facilitate multidisciplinary technical discussions involving system functions, functional failures, failure modes, failure effects, maintenance requirements, and maintenance-task selection.
  • Technical Documentation: Develop and maintain RCM analysis products, including system descriptions, functional block diagrams, functional analyses, failure-mode analyses, logic analyses, task recommendations, workshop notes, action-item logs, and technical reports.
  • Gap Analysis: Evaluate existing preventive, corrective, and other maintenance requirements to identify ineffective, unnecessary, missing, or duplicative maintenance.
  • Actionable Advice: Develop recommendations for appropriate maintenance actions, intervals, procedures, inspections, testing, troubleshooting, technical-documentation updates, training, supply support, or other improvements.
  • Data Review: Analyze technical manuals, maintenance records, reliability data, failure reports, operating experience, engineering drawings, and other system documentation.
  • Collaboration: Coordinate with operators, maintainers, engineers, logisticians, program personnel, and technical authorities to obtain required technical input and validate analysis conclusions.
  • Traceability Preservation: Document assumptions, evidence sources, technical issues, stakeholder input, and unresolved action items to ensure traceability of workshop results.
  • Presentations: Prepare technical briefings, reports, findings, and recommendations for customer and internal review.
  • Quality Assurance: Participate in quality reviews of RCM analyses and revise products based on technical feedback.
  • Implementation Support: Support implementation and follow-up of approved RCM maintenance recommendations.
  • Continuous Improvement: Support development and improvement of RCM templates, technical guidance, engineering tools, process documentation, and training materials.
  • Risk & Project Management: Coordinate assigned tasks and deliverables; identify schedule, data, technical, or stakeholder risks to the Senior Engineer or project lead.
Required Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering, engineering technology, or a related technical discipline. Or 10 years of experience working in engineering, engineering technology, or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience: Three or more years of relevant experience in reliability engineering, maintenance engineering, systems engineering, technical analysis, equipment maintenance, or a closely related field.
  • Analysis Exposure: Experience participating in reliability, maintenance, failure-mode, systems, or RCM analyses.
  • Foundational Knowledge: Working knowledge of reliability engineering, maintenance principles, and Classic RCM concepts.
  • Structural Understanding: Knowledge of the relationships among system functions, functional failures, failure modes, failure effects, failure consequences, and maintenance-task selection.
  • Facilitation Capability: Demonstrated ability to facilitate technical discussions, gather and document technical information, and develop clear analytical products.
  • Technical Reading: Experience reviewing and interpreting technical standards, specifications, drawings, technical manuals, maintenance documentation, and engineering data.
  • Communication: Strong analytical, technical writing, problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work independently on assigned tasks and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Software Proficiency: Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other standard engineering/documentation tools.
  • Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance, if required for the assigned program.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience facilitating or co-facilitating Classic RCM Workshops.
  • Experience applying MIL-STD-3034 or another structured RCM methodology.
  • Experience supporting U.S. Navy, Department of War, or other federal-government programs.
  • Experience with Navy maintenance programs, shipboard equipment, submarine systems, mechanical systems, electrical systems, electronics, or integrated systems.
  • Experience developing preventive-maintenance requirements, maintenance procedures, or maintenance-change recommendations.
  • Experience performing reliability, maintainability, failure, root-cause, or life-cycle-cost analyses.
  • Experience with condition-based maintenance concepts, reliability-data analysis, or engineering databases.
  • Experience working directly with government customers and technical stakeholders.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Working knowledge of reliability and maintenance-engineering principles.
  • Ability to analyze technical information and identify meaningful maintenance and reliability issues.
  • Ability to facilitate structured technical discussions and accurately capture outcomes.
