Description
The Head XC and Track and Field coach will serve as the primary coach and administrator for both the men's and women's XC and the men's and women's Track and Field programs. The Head XC and Track and Field Coach will be responsible for instructing students in the areas of the sports fundamentals, sportsmanship, and leadership, film, scouting, recruiting, academic and conduct monitoring, and strength and conditioning.

Education:
B.A. or B.S. degree required, Master's degree preferred
Experience:
Three years successful coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level, head coaching experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities:
Working knowledge of coaching all aspects of both cross country and track and field. The ability to work with Front Rush recruiting software, and the ability to create film sessions with both individual members of the team and the full team. Coaching licenses, certification, and badges preferred.
The successful candidate must also possess the skills to function well in a variety of roles that interact positively with the administration, faculty, coaching staff, student-athletes and other on-campus and off-campus communities.
The successful candidate will show the ability to work successfully in a highly competitive, NCAA Division III, collegiate environment.
While performing the duties of this job, you must be able to stand for several hours at a time, jog during cross country meets to mile markers, and demonstrate technique for multiple track and field events. The normal work environment includes both indoor and outdoor conditions on a daily basis with regard to both practices and meets.
Work on nights, weekends, and overnight travel is expected.

Description

Example of Duties
- Coaching responsibilities to include; instructing students on sport fundamentals, setting goals, setting clear expectations, and providing feedback to students
- Demonstrate teaching and coaching competencies with regards to skill instruction and tactical strategies
- Develop and implement a comprehensive recruiting plan to include recruiting qualified collegiate student-athletes.
- Design and execute a competitive schedule
- Monitor and provide input and instruction regarding the strength and conditioning program for the team
- Oversee the management of team operating and fundraising budgets.
- Organize team travel arrangements including meals, hotels, and transportation
- Participate in department wide and sport specific fundraising efforts
- Provide leadership in the personal, academic, and athletic development of student-athletes
- Monitor the academic progress of student-athletes to ensure they are meeting academic course requirements and providing guidance and instruction to students to ensure success
- Monitor the conduct of the student-athletes with NCAA, NAC, department and team expectations
- Oversee assistant coaching staff
- Work with the Director of Athletic Facilities in monitoring all athletic facilities used by the program.
- Develop agreements with local entities for practice facilities; UMaine, Bangor, Saxl Park, etc.
