Job Description:
The Chesapeake Sheriff’s Office has an opening for a Victim Witness Program Specialist .The Specialist provides services to adults and children of crime to reduce trauma of victimization and encourage crime victims to cooperate and participate in the criminal justice system. Responsibilities include: Explaining the criminal justice system and to ensure that victims are aware of their rights. Provide crisis intervention, referrals to community resources, explain court procedures, assist with protective orders and ensure clients are receiving information and support. Performs other duties as required.


Required Qualifications:

VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Requires a bachelor’s degree or any equivalent combination of education and experience in law, sociology, psychology, or a closely related field EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: In addition to satisfying the vocational/educational standard, this class requires a minimum of one year of related, full-time equivalent experience. SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES: Requires a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is in compliance with City Driving Standards. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.



Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of the criminal justice system
Demonstration of a high level of sensitivity and empathy
The ability to handle a big case load
Spanish-Bilingual skills are helpful
