Position Summary:
The Quality Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing Alcom's Quality Management System to ensure the manufacture of safe, compliant, and high-quality aluminum trailers. This position oversees incoming material inspection, in-process manufacturing inspections, final product inspections, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives across plant operations.
Working closely with Engineering, Production, Supply Chain, Warranty Administration, and Leadership, the Quality Manager drives operational excellence through quality assurance, quality control, process standardization, root cause analysis, and employee training. The position serves as the primary leader for quality-related initiatives and fosters a culture where safety, quality, customer satisfaction, and continuous improvement are core organizational values.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, maintain, and continuously improve Alcom's Quality Management System.
- Establish quality standards, inspection criteria, auditing procedures, and process controls throughout manufacturing operations.
- Ensure compliance with company quality requirements, customer specifications, and applicable regulatory standards.
- Develop and maintain Quality Assurance Plans and Quality Control Plans for all product lines.
- Lead internal quality audits and support external customer or regulatory audits.
Quality Assurance & Quality Control:
- Oversee incoming material inspections, fabrication inspections, welding inspections, assembly inspections, and final product inspections.
- Develop standardized inspection processes and acceptance criteria.
- Monitor quality trends and identify opportunities to improve workmanship, process consistency, and product reliability.
- Ensure inspection documentation is complete, accurate, and maintained according to company requirements.
- Establish pass/fail criteria for finished products and inspection checkpoints.
Continuous Improvement:
- Lead root cause investigations to identify and eliminate recurring defects and quality issues.
- Facilitate corrective and preventive action programs.
- Utilize Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement principles to reduce waste, rework, scrap, and warranty expenses.
- Drive process improvements targeting FTT and scrap reduction using methodologies such as:
- Process Mapping
- Control Plans
- 5 Why Analysis
- Pareto / Data driven Problem Solving
Warranty & Customer Quality:
- Partner with Warranty Administration to review, analyze, and trend warranty claims.
- Identify recurring product issues and establish corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Develop quality improvement initiatives based on customer feedback and warranty data.
- Support customer issue investigations and quality escalation processes.
Employee Development:
- Recruit, train, coach, and develop quality team members.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback.
- Develop quality awareness and training programs for production employees.
- Promote accountability for quality throughout the organization.
- Build collaborative relationships across departments.
Metrics & Reporting:
- Develop and track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) related to quality performance.
- Present quality performance results and improvement plans to leadership.
- Analyze and communicate data including:
- First Pass Yield
- Defect Rates
- Rework Costs
- Scrap Costs
- Warranty Claims
- Audit Findings
- Corrective Action Closure Rates
Safety & Compliance
- Support all safety initiatives and company safety programs.
- Ensure quality systems support regulatory compliance requirements.
- Maintain compliance with applicable trailer’s manufacturing standards and requirements.
- Participate in safety investigations when quality factors are involved.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, or related field -OR- 5+ years in related field in a leadership role
- 5 or more years of quality management experience within a manufacturing or construction environment is desired.
- Lean Manufacturing experience is required.
- CAD print reading skills are desired.
