Senior Navy Systems Architect

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Navy Systems Architect based in the United States.

This role offers the opportunity to provide technical leadership on complex defense and maritime technology programs supporting critical national security missions.

Accountabilities

As a Senior Navy Systems Architect, you will provide technical direction, architectural guidance, and systems engineering expertise to support modernization initiatives and mission-critical defense programs.

  • Lead technical strategy development for modernization efforts across Navy platforms, ship classes, and fleet-level initiatives.
  • Develop, evaluate, and communicate complex system architectures supporting shipboard systems, communications networks, and integrated mission capabilities.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in Navy system-of-systems integration, interoperability, and platform modernization.
  • Assess technical solutions against Navy modernization roadmaps, capability requirements, and future mission needs.
  • Support engineering trade studies, requirements development, technical baselines, risk assessments, and architecture reviews.
  • Collaborate with government program offices, warfare centers, engineering organizations, and operational users to validate requirements and ensure technical alignment.
  • Provide guidance on emerging technologies, digital engineering practices, and modernization pathways.
  • Support integration and upgrade activities across shipyards and operational environments.
  • Serve as a trusted technical advisor on Navy systems architecture, mission engineering, and future capability development.
Requirements

The ideal candidate is an experienced defense systems architect with extensive Navy technical expertise, strong engineering capabilities, and the ability to support complex classified programs.

  • Active DoD Top Secret security clearance required.
  • 10+ years of experience supporting U.S. Navy programs in technical, engineering, systems architecture, or communications-focused roles.
  • Extensive knowledge of Navy shipboard systems, including communications suites, RF systems, SATCOM, data links, C4I networks, combat systems, sensors, and platform integration.
  • Proven experience supporting Navy modernization processes, strategies, and capability roadmaps, including programs such as CANES, ADNS, CEC, NIFC-CA, AEGIS modernization, and shipyard modernization efforts.
  • Strong understanding of systems engineering principles, system integration, and system-of-systems architecture.
  • Experience designing, assessing, and presenting complex technical architectures to engineering and operational stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with Navy acquisition processes, fleet operations, and mission-driven technology development.
  • Excellent technical writing, documentation, and briefing skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with government customers, engineering teams, and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Former Navy experience in roles such as Combat Systems Officer, Communications Officer, Information Warfare Officer, Engineering Duty Officer, or Systems Test Officer is preferred.
  • Experience with digital engineering, MBSE, architecture frameworks such as DoDAF or UAF, and enterprise modeling tools is a plus.
  • A master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Communications Engineering, or a related technical field is preferred.
