Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Development is responsible for growing, managing, and sustaining the LSU Alumni Association’s Business Membership program along with developing strategic corporate and individual partnerships, tied to the Association’s major assets, that advance the mission of the Association. This position focuses on recruiting new business members and corporate partners, strengthening relationships with existing members and partners, increasing member engagement and retention, identifying sponsorship opportunities, and creating meaningful opportunities for businesses to connect with LSU alumni nationwide. This position will also be responsible for developing, implementing, and executing our monthly annual giving program.

DEVELOPMENT & RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT

  • Develop, implement, and execute short, intermediate, and long-term strategies to grow the LSU Alumni Business Membership, corporate partnerships and mid-level donor programs.
  • Identify, recruit, and cultivate new Business Members while maintaining strong relationships with existing Business Members to meet annual membership and revenue goals.
  • Serve as the primary relationship manager for LSU Alumni Business Members, ensuring a high level of engagement, satisfaction, and retention.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to deliver member and partner benefits and ensure all business member and partnership commitments are fulfilled.
  • Collaborate with the Vice President of Development to identify new sponsorship opportunities and secure Corporate Sponsors that are connected to the Association’s major assets.
  • Collaborate with development and other departments to develop campaigns, business events and golf tournament planning, along with other Association programming driving engagement and involvement.
  • Collaborate with other departments to develop, implement, and execute our monthly annual giving program.

PARTNER & MEMBER ENGAGEMENT & STEWARDSHIP

  • Develop and implement engagement strategies, networking opportunities, and recognition initiatives for Business Members.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Department to develop membership recruitment materials, promotional campaigns, success stories, and stewardship communications.
  • Ensure Business Members and Corporate Partners receive all contracted benefits, recognition, and ongoing communication throughout the year.
  • Identify opportunities to expand Business Member and Corporate Partner involvement across LSU Alumni Association programs and events.

MONITORING AND REPORTING

  • Track membership recruitment, renewals, retention, and revenue against established goals.
  • Provide weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to the VP of Development.

OTHER

  • Increased work hours between September-November and March-May, as well as travel throughout Louisiana and other states.
  • Represent the LSU Alumni Association at networking events, conferences, chapter events, and other business development opportunities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain professional relationships with business leaders, corporate partners, and community stakeholders.
  • Experience in business development, sales, sponsorships, account management, and partnership cultivation preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, networking, and relationship-building skills.
  • Flexible, creative, and demonstrated capacity to communicate the organization's programs and value proposition effectively.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation and proposal development.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, graphic design and social media knowledge and constituent relationship management software.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to travel in and out of state to recruit, engage, and steward members and partners.

The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. Travel may be required.
