Job Description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Lead Engineer – Virtualization based in India.
This is a senior technical leadership opportunity focused on designing, deploying, and managing modern VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) environments.
You will lead full-stack VCF implementations across compute, networking, storage, automation, and lifecycle management.
The role combines hands-on engineering with architecture collaboration, customer engagement, troubleshooting, and technical mentorship.
You will work with technologies including SDDC Manager, NSX-T, vSAN, vSphere, and the Aria Suite to deliver scalable hybrid-cloud infrastructure.
Automation is a key focus, with opportunities to use Terraform, Ansible, REST APIs, PowerCLI, Python, and Bash to streamline Day-2 operations.
You will also contribute to multi-cloud initiatives involving platforms such as Azure VMware Solution and VMware Cloud on AWS.
Success requires deep virtualization expertise, strong problem-solving ability, and the confidence to lead complex infrastructure projects and guide other engineers.
- Lead end-to-end VMware Cloud Foundation deployments, from planning and architecture through implementation, configuration, and production readiness.
- Design and configure management and workload domains, SDDC Manager, and VCF Bring-Up processes according to customer requirements.
- Configure and integrate core VCF technologies including vSphere, NSX-T, vSAN, and Aria Operations, Automation, and Logs.
- Collaborate with architects to develop VCF design blueprints, capacity plans, implementation strategies, and customer-specific infrastructure solutions.
- Drive post-deployment Day-2 configurations, including NSX security policies, AVNs, vSAN policies, alerting, logging, monitoring, and automation integrations.
- Troubleshoot complex VCF issues across compute, network, storage, and management layers, identifying root causes and implementing sustainable solutions.
- Automate infrastructure operations using Terraform, Ansible, REST APIs, PowerCLI, Python, Bash, and other appropriate scripting technologies.
- Support VCF lifecycle management, including patching, upgrades, certificate replacement, integrations, and other SDDC Manager activities.
- Contribute to hybrid and multi-cloud infrastructure initiatives involving AWS, Azure, Azure VMware Solution, VMware Cloud on AWS, or comparable platforms.
- Develop comprehensive technical documentation, including deployment runbooks, design documents, operational procedures, and Day-2 support guides.
- Mentor junior engineers on VCF architecture, implementation, troubleshooting, and operational best practices.
- Maintain clear and effective communication with customers and stakeholders throughout project delivery, helping ensure strong technical outcomes and customer satisfaction.
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, cloud teams, and other cross-functional stakeholders in global delivery environments.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
- 7–10 years of experience working with virtualization and cloud infrastructure technologies.
- At least 3 years of hands-on experience deploying and managing VMware Cloud Foundation in production environments.
- Deep technical expertise in SDDC Manager, NSX-T, vSAN, vSphere 7/8, and VMware Aria Suite components.
- Proven experience across the full VCF lifecycle, including Day-0 through Day-2 operations, patching, upgrades, certificate replacement, integrations, and ongoing management.
- Strong knowledge of infrastructure automation using Terraform, Ansible, REST APIs, PowerCLI, Python, and/or Bash.
- Experience designing or supporting multi-site VCF environments and advanced networking technologies such as NSX Federation is an advantage.
- Working knowledge of AWS and Azure, with the ability to support hybrid-cloud infrastructure solutions.
- Exposure to Azure VMware Solution, VMware Cloud on AWS, Nutanix, or other multi-cloud and edge technologies is preferred.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and integrating infrastructure platforms into DevOps workflows is an advantage.
- VMware certifications such as VCP-VCF Administrator, VCP-DCV, VCP-NV, VCP-CMA, or equivalent credentials are preferred.
- Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities, with the ability to develop junior engineers and share technical expertise.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain complex infrastructure architectures clearly to customers and non-specialist stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, particularly when resolving complex issues under pressure.
- Exceptional attention to detail across architecture, implementation, configuration, documentation, and operational processes.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and manage priorities within complex, global delivery environments.
- Opportunity to work on next-generation virtualization, hybrid-cloud, automation, and AI-enabled infrastructure projects.
- Exposure to enterprise-scale VMware Cloud Foundation environments and modern datacenter technologies.
- Opportunity to work with leading cloud platforms including AWS and Azure.
- Hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code and automation technologies such as Terraform and Ansible.
- Senior technical ownership and opportunities to influence architecture, implementation standards, and delivery practices.
- Opportunities to mentor engineers and develop technical leadership capabilities.
- Collaborative environment involving architects, engineers, cloud specialists, and customer stakeholders.
- Exposure to complex, global technology projects spanning cloud computing, cybersecurity, automation, and digital transformation.
- Professional growth opportunities through continuous exposure to emerging infrastructure technologies and delivery methodologies.
- Inclusive workplace culture that encourages diverse perspectives, technical innovation, and career development.
