Hiring Range: $51,559.00 or $56,844.00 (Depending on Qualifications)
Work Hours: 7:00 am – 7:00 am (24-hour shifts)This position is devoted to performing firefighting, rescue, hazardous material response, and emergency medical services. This is accomplished by extinguishing fires, conducting fire rescue operations, preventing the reoccurrence of fires, maintaining and inspecting fire apparatus and equipment, conducting pre-fire plans, training on firefighting techniques, performing public relations activities, providing life support, and participating in continuing education for state certification.
- Provides emergency medical services as a first responder by responding to emergency medical incidents; evaluating and administering drugs for cardiac, respiratory, allergic conditions and trauma incidents; maintaining EMS equipment and supplies
- Maintains required certifications.
- Performs fire control and rescue operations by entering burning structures; searching for victims and fire sources; extinguishing fires; operating heavy equipment and apparatus; forcing entry into structures; examining fire damage; locating hydrants and other sources for water; operating hose lines; cleaning fire scenes; utilizing systematic search procedures to find victims; and determining safe evacuation paths.
- Provides highly specialized rescue and/or firefighting services such as swift water rescue, hazardous materials response, and technical rescue.
- Participates in drills; maintaining required certifications; demonstrating consistent and thorough knowledge of specialized areas; and maintaining records, logs and reports.
- Maintains equipment and the facility by performing daily preventive maintenance; testing fire equipment; checking hydrants; and performing other duties as assigned.
- Maintains grounds and the facility.
- High school diploma/equivalency (GED, HiSET, TASC).
- Must be 18 years or older by May 5, 2025.
- Valid, unrestricted, Class C driver's license 'or' if you currently have another state driver's license and will reside in North Carolina, be willing and able to obtain a valid NC driver's license within 60 days of start date
- No DWI/DUI convictions in the last four years.
- No felony convictions
- Must pass written fire related job knowledge test, agility testing, a firefighter practical skill test, medical examination, and extensive background investigation.
- Lateral applicants must have served a minimum of two years in a paid full-time firefighter position and been employed as a full-time firefighter within the last nine months at the time of application.
- Accelerated Lateral applicants must have served a minimum of four years in a paid full-time firefighter position and been employed as a full-time firefighter within the last nine months at the time of application.
- This position is critical to emergency operations and will report to work in spite of or because of an emergency or disaster event.
Lateral Firefighter
- Lateral applicants must have served a minimum of two years in a paid full-time firefighter position and been employed as a full-time firefighter within the last nine months at the time of application.
- NC FF I and FF II certificate or IFSAC/ProBoard equivalent.
- NC Hazardous Materials Operations (HAZMAT Ops) or NC Hazardous Materials Awareness/Operations Certification or or IFSAC/ProBoard equivalent.
- NC EMT Certification or the ability to attain reciprocity from NC Office of Emergency Medical Services.
- NIMS 100, 200, 700, 800.
Accelerated Lateral Firefighter
- Accelerated Lateral applicants must have served a minimum of four years in a paid full-time firefighter position and been employed as a full-time firefighter within the last nine months at the time of application.
- NC FF I and FF II certificate or IFSAC/ProBoard equivalent.
- NC Hazardous Materials Operations (HAZMAT Ops) or NC Hazardous Materials Awareness/Operations or IFSAC/ProBoard equivalent.
- NC EMT Certification or the ability to attain reciprocity from NC Office of Emergency Medical Services.
- NIMS 100, 200, 700, 800.
- ACCELERATED Lateral Firefighter applicants must have a minimum of three additional certifications from the following list:
- NC AEMT or NC Paramedic or the ability to attain reciprocity from the North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services
- NC Driver Operator Emergency Vehicle Driver or IFSAC/ProBoard equivalent
- NC Driver Operator Vehicle Pumps or IFSAC/ProBoard equivalent
- NC Driver Operator Aerial or IFSAC/ProBoard equivalent
- NC Hazardous Materials Level II (Technician) or IFSAC/ProBoard equivalent
- NC Technical Rescuer: Compilation of TR- General Series or IFSAC/ProBoard equivalent
- NC Swiftwater Rescue or IFSAC/ProBoard equivalent
- NC Fire Instructor I or IFSAC/ProBoard equivalent
- NC Fire Officer I or IFSAC/ProBoard equivalent
- Fire Management Certificate (attained at the University/College level)
- College Degree
- NC Fire Inspector Level I or IFSAC/ProBoard equivalent
