Respiratory Therapist at Crouse Hospital – Syracuse, New York

The Respiratory Therapist performs cardiopulmonary evaluation, respiratory therapy treatment techniques, and education of the patient, family, and public. Evaluation shall include the acquisition, analysis, and interpretation of data obtained from physiological specimens, performing diagnostic tests, studies and research of the cardiopulmonary system and neurophysiological studies related to respiratory care. Therapy shall include the application and monitoring of medical gases, and environmental control systems, mechanical ventilator support, artificial airway care, bronchopulmonary hygiene, pharmacologic agents related to respiratory care procedures, and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation related and limited to respiratory care. Licensed Respiratory therapists perform and administer routine, and emergent clinical assessments and respiratory care, to include emergent transportation, cardiopulmonary monitoring, diagnostic testing, and patient/caregiver education in the NICU, Adult ICU, ED, Acute care medical/surgical units, Sleep Center, and Catheterization Laboratory.

Education/Experience Requirements

Required:

• Two year Associates Degree in Respiratory Care at an AMA approved program.

Preferred:

• Bachelor’s degree

Licensure/Certification Requirements:

• Current New York State License as a Respiratory Therapist and also
• Credentialed by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required within one (1) year of hire.
• Pediatric Advances Life Support (PALS) required within one (1) year of hire.
• Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) certification, if applicable

SPECIAL SKILLS/EQUIPMENT

• Good knowledge of Microsoft Office, healthcare/hospital related I.T/I.S programs, and databases.
