About This Position

Grays Harbor College Athletic Department invites applications for the position of Head Coach for Intercollegiate Softball team. Under the supervision of the Athletic Director, this position oversees all aspects of the softball program in accordance with all athletic department, college, and Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) policies and regulations. The head coach has the ultimate responsibility for implementing a comprehensive collegiate softball experience for student athletes that includes academic achievement, competitive athletics and opportunities to pursue interests and passions. This is a part-time, non-tenure position and not eligible for benefits.

  • Coordinate and supervise the softball program, assistant coaches and student-athletes in accordance with established conference rules and regulations including the oversight of all eligibility rules and regulations as established by the athletic department.
  • Adhere to established Grays Harbor College Athletic Department Coaches Handbook.
  • Teaching softball skills and strategies to prepare individuals and the team for intercollegiate competition.
  • Recruit student-athletes following NWAC regulations and college guidelines.
  • Assist the student with the academic oversight and monitoring of student-athlete’s academic progress.
  • Assist in the development of a competitive schedule in collaboration with the Athletic Director and in alignment with budgetary guidelines.
  • Provide post-season evaluation of all student athletes.
  • Maintain minimum roster requirements as set by the Athletic Department.
  • Work with department personnel to coordinate game management, travel arrangements and athletic facility usage details.
  • Maintain, inventory and ensure proper tracking of program equipment and apparel.
  • Assist in program budget administration and facilitate team-sponsored fundraising activities to enhance the program.
  • Timely processing of appropriate institutional and conference paperwork and reports.
  • Demonstrate continued professional growth by staying current in and expanding knowledge of softball coaching techniques.
  • Represent the athletics department and programs in the community, including community service projects.
  • Attend department meetings as requested.
  • Transport student-athletes in GHC sponsored transportation to and from competitions, or practice as needed.
  • Conduct end of season exit interviews and discuss with athletic director.
  • Assist athletic department with student-athlete surveys.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree
  • Demonstrated experience as a softball coach
  • Availability to attend practices and games on weekday afternoons and evenings, and weekends
  • Demonstrated understanding of softball rules and regulations
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification or ability to obtain certification prior to first practice
  • Availability to travel out of state as needed
  • Valid unrestricted Driver’s License

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Commitment to a philosophy of promoting student success
  • Knowledge of NCAA and NWAC softball rules and regulations
  • Experience coaching and recruiting at the college level
