Job Description

INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW:
The unpaid Camp Baker Undergraduate Volunteer gains direct face-to-face clinical intervention experience, supervision, and didactic training that can count toward clinical hours requirements. Practicum and academic credits often can be arranged through volunteer’s own program.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Reads the program manual and be extensively familiar with the behavior modification program and rules and procedures for daily recreational activities.
  • Utilizes effective commands and enthusiasm to support campers in participating in sport activities and praise campers’ participation and effort in all camp activities.
  • Assists with the implementation of daily report cards and individualized treatment programs.
  • Assists in providing behavioral consultation and assistance to Graduate Counselors and Undergraduate Counselors in each group. Be available to manage problem situations when behavioral issues escalate.
  • Assists other staff in reviewing daily treatment records to determine individual areas of impairment and target behaviors and individualized programming needs for campers who do not respond to standard treatment components.
  • Completes mid-summer and end-of-summer self-assessment on performance within Camp Baker.
  • Co-Supervises and co-leads weekly Fun Friday activities.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
  • Works under the supervision of the Camp Baker leadership team and experienced Camp Baker staff members and receive regular feedback about performance.
  • Learns to appropriately records, documents, and enters critical incident reports. Follows up with medical staff as needed.
  • Participates in week-long didactic training on behavior modification principles and orientation to treatment approach and intervention components.
  • Training:
    • During all camp activities, volunteers implement an extensive behavior modification treatment program. The behavior modification program includes feedback and associated consequences for positive and negative behaviors, daily and weekly rewards for appropriate behavior, social praise and attention, appropriate commands, and age-appropriate removal from positive reinforcement.
    • Abides by policies and procedures regarding physical management of, and injuries to, campers.
    • Must be able to use physical management procedures to help maintain the safety of children ages 6-12. Due to this aspect of the internship, volunteers will come into close contact with campers and other staff and will be unable to socially distance.
