WORKING CONDITIONS
Considerable work is performed outdoors. There is daily exposure to the elements and depending upon assignment there may be occasion where there is exposure to unsanitary conditions, odors, chemicals, raw sewage, toxic gases, fumes, dust, air contaminants, pesticides, natural gas lines, asbestos, dead animals, vibrations and high voltage. There will be exposure to power and noise producing tools and heavy equipment; work may also be performed around traffic. This position is subject to emergency call-outs. Tasks are also performed in an office setting with frequent interruptions, multiple deadlines, complaints, and peak workload periods.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work may involve considerable physical exertion, including lifting, carrying, rolling, transporting of light to heavy tools and objects (up to 50 pounds); prolonged periods of standing, sitting, stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, crawling, crouching, twisting, kneeling, bending, grasping and making repetitive hand movement, walking on level and slippery surfaces, and climbing. Work will also require manual dexterity, clear speech, visual and hearing acuity.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
General supervision is received from the Water Distribution Manager. Direct supervision is exercised over one or more lead workers and assigned staff within the Utility Division.
- Five (5) years of broad and increasingly responsible journey level experience including at least 2 years of experience equivalent to a Water Distribution Worker III (i.e. maintenance of municipal water distribution system and/or sewer collection system) or equivalent experience are required.
- High school graduation or equivalent is required.
REQUIRED LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATES
- Possession of a valid Class C California State Driver's License is required; a commercial driver's license is highly desirable and may be required.
- Possession of a California Water Environment Association (CWEA) Collection Systems Technician Grade II license is required.
- Possession of a State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) Water Distribution Operator Grade II license is required.
- California Water Environment Association (CWEA) Collection Systems Technician Grade III license, or ability to obtain within six months, is required.
- State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) Water Distribution Operator Grade III license, or ability to obtain within six months, is required.
- Depending on assignment, American Water Works Association (AWWA) Cross Connection Control Specialist certification may be required

THE SELECTION PROCESS
