Job Description
The opportunity
The way software is built is changing, and fast! Engineers who embrace AI-native workflows today will define the next decade of product development. Those who don’t? They will be explaining what they used to do.
At Productboard, this transformation to being AI native is not a side project; it is our entire focus. AI first is our operating model, and this is how we work. We are building an AI-first Product Engineering organization where learning velocity matters as much as shipping. Our northstar: turn ideas into validated learning twice as fast. More experiments. Tighter feedback loops. Better outcomes.
We are looking for a Staff Full-stack Product Engineer who wants to be at the center of this transformation, not watching it happen from the outside. Join us, and help shape the future of AI-powered product development.
This role will be based in our Brno office with an office-centric hybrid schedule.
Why this matters for your careerThe gap between engineers who are building with AI daily and those who are still watching is widening fast. At Productboard, you won't just use AI tools. You will shape the architecture that makes AI agents effective, define the workflows that make them reliable, and build the evaluation systems that make them trustworthy. You will work in an environment where AI first is not a future aspiration. It is the current standard.
The skills you build here, agent native design, multi-model orchestration, eval-driven development, AI-ready codebase architecture, are the skills that will define senior engineering for the next decade.
AI is how we buildThis is not a tagline. It is our daily operating model across Engineering, Product, and Design. PMs and designers don't just spec features here. They prototype with AI tools and ship to production alongside engineers.
AI is embedded across the full lifecycle: technical discoveries, spec writing, design exploration, implementation, test generation, code review, CI/CD, and incident resolution. Human judgment stays in control. People own product intent and quality decisions, with strong review practices and guardrails that keep shipping safe.
What you get from day one:
- Every engineer and leader gets access to the best AI tools available: Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, Glean, and more
- AI Champions embedded across teams, ready to pair with you, unblock you, and help you move faster with AI agents
- A codebase built for agents, with structured AGENTS.md files, curated skills, and clean patterns that make AI coding agents effective alongside engineers
- Heavy investment in developer tooling so testing, prototyping, and working with agents is seamless and fast
- Every six weeks, we pause our regular roadmap and give Engineering, Product, and Design a dedicated 2 days window to build and ship real features using AI tools, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible. This is not a hackathon. What gets built goes to production.
What we are building underneath:
- Agent native architecture standards: clear API contracts, semantic naming, and well-defined module boundaries that keep AI effective as systems grow
- A context infrastructure layer with repo versioned guidance that AI tools automatically load, improving the output of Cursor, Claude Code, and Codex simultaneously
- AI agent workflows for on-call and incident resolution: triage alerts, pull logs, surface relevant history, and suggest remediation
- Systematic optimization of AI code review to catch correctness, security, and maintainability issues earlier
- Own the frontend architecture of features and platform capabilities. Lead end-to-end delivery, with backend contributions in Python and Kotlin where it sharpens the user-facing outcome.
- Design and build agent-native UI patterns: streaming responses, tool-use visualization, human-in-the-loop checkpoints, generative components, real-time collaboration with agents.
- Lead the frontend craft bar: component architecture, design system contributions, performance budgets, accessibility, frontend observability, and testing strategy.
- Define the contracts between backend services and AI-driven UIs so streaming, tool calls, and partial state stay predictable for users.
- Make our codebase AI-ready from the frontend in: clear module boundaries, semantic naming, structured docs, and the context that makes AI agents effective in our stack.
- Run experiments, validate with real users, and iterate on evidence. We measure learning velocity, not lines shipped.
- Mentor mid-level and junior engineers through pairing, design reviews, and direct technical feedback.
- Partner with PMs and designers to shape what we build, not just how. Product thinking is required, not bonus.
- Multiply knowledge. Share what you learn across teams to raise the bar beyond your own pod.
- 5+ years of professional engineering experience, with 4+ years building production frontends in TypeScript and React
- Deep working knowledge of modern React patterns, state management, frontend performance, and accessibility
- Comfortable working across the stack: you can ship changes in Python or Kotlin, reason about API design, and evolve service-level logic when the user-facing problem requires it
- Production experience with GraphQL, design systems, and component libraries at scale
- A track record of owning user-facing features end-to-end across frontend and backend
- Clear communication, especially when explaining technical trade-offs across functions
- AI in your daily workflow: you use coding assistants, iterate on prompts, and look for compounding leverage rather than one-off wins
- Curiosity about agent-native frontend architecture: how UIs, contracts, and documentation need to evolve when AI agents are first-class collaborators
- Pragmatic and product-focused. You ship outcomes, not elegance for its own sake
Bonus:
- Experience building AI-driven UIs: streaming, tool-use surfaces, generative components, eval-driven UI development
- Frontend performance work at scale (bundle size, rendering paths, Core Web Vitals)
- Past contributions to design systems or component libraries used by multiple teams
- You’ll work with the following frameworks, tools, and languages:
- Frontend: TypeScript, React, GraphQL
- Backend: Python, Kotlin, Ruby, Kafka
- Storage: PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Elastic, Redis
- Data Pipeline: Python, Keboola, Looker, Snowflake
- Infrastructure: AWS, Cloudflare, Kubernetes, Terraform
- Business tools: Slack, Jira, Google suite, Zoom, Notion
- Full Tech Stack
