The starting salary range for this position is $34.57 - $39.76, depending on qualifications

Under the general direction of the General Operations Manager, the Track Operator assists with overseeing the daily operations and maintenance of the BMX Track facility, including USA BMX-sanctioned and non-sanctioned programming, facility supervision, event operations, rider instruction, and staff oversight. Work hours may include evenings, weekends, and holidays based on programming schedules, practices, races, and special events, and may be adjusted as needed. This position ensures safe, efficient, and high-quality programming. Facilitates the development of public trust and confidence in the City.

  • Keeps the mission, vision, and values of the City of Port St. Lucie at the forefront of decision-making and action; builds strategic and collaborative relationships and interacts with others in a way that builds confidence and trust; provides excellent customer service by taking action to accomplish objectives; maintains high levels of work and productivity by generating innovative solutions to work situations.
  • Build and maintain strategic, collaborative relationships with facility user groups, families, track operators, volunteers, and potential BMX clubs while ensuring a high standard of customer service.
  • Assist in the overall management and daily operations of the BMX track and All-Wheels facility, including USA BMX and non-USA BMX programming, events, practices, races, rentals, and concessions to ensure safe conditions.
  • Enforce facility rules and safety standards consistent with USA BMX and City policies.
  • Directly oversee the operation and execution of sanctioned and non-sanctioned events, ensuring proper track usage, safety compliance, and operational efficiency.
  • Perform supervisory responsibilities for the Assistant Track Operator, non-supervisory staff, and volunteers; provide training, direction, and performance oversight as assigned.
  • Serve in a leadership capacity in the absence of the General Operations Manager, assuming all necessary supervisory and operational duties to ensure continuity of facility operations.
  • Coordinate BMX programming, clinics, leagues, and special events.
  • Open and close the facility; oversee setup and breakdown for events and programs.
  • Coach and instruct riders of all skill levels in accordance with program standards.
  • Accept payments and process program and rental transactions using RecTrac software; maintain accurate records and prepare required weekly USA BMX and RecTrac reports.
  • Coordinate program scheduling and assist with membership tracking, attendance reporting, and related administrative documentation.
  • Manage and support the bike loaner program, including equipment maintenance, inventory control, and usage oversight.
  • Recruit, coordinate, and manage volunteers supporting USA BMX programming and facility operations.
  • Monitor and supervise maintenance of the track, grounds, buildings, equipment, and common areas; perform and oversee manual and semi-skilled maintenance and repair work as needed.
  • Conduct routine facility and safety inspections; document maintenance needs and ensure timely corrective action.
  • Operate City vehicles in accordance with policy; perform required safety checks and inspections.
  • Prepare and deliver daily written and verbal reports as required.
  • Assist with inventory management, budget-related needs, and equipment purchasing recommendations.
  • Provide informational guidance to the public regarding facility use, programs, and events.
  • Develop and maintain daily social media content and website updates to promote programming and community engagement.
  • Other duties as may be assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the City’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma is required. A minimum of five (5) years of BMX racing experience is preferred. A minimum of one (1) or more years of supervisory experience is required. Must be actively involved in and passionate about the sport.

A comparable amount of training, education, or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • USA BMX coaching certification and/or prior coaching experience required within 6 months from the date of hire.
  • CPR/AED certification is required to be obtained within 6 months of the date of hire.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and maintenance of a clean driving record are required, with the ability to obtain a valid Florida driver’s license within 30 days from the date of hire.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Ability to access, input, and retrieve information from a computer.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of all aspects of BMX track operations, including USA BMX guidelines and rules for proper programming.
  • General knowledge of BMX track equipment is preferred, including but not limited to gate operations and the Public Address (PA) system.
  • Strong knowledge, understanding, and familiarity with safety standards, incident reporting, and risk management practices at recreational sports facilities.
  • Ability to work with MotoMaker and RecTrac software.
  • Knowledge in asset management, including maintenance for the purposes of the loaner bike program.
  • Skill in public speaking during meetings, events, etc.
  • Knowledge of tools and equipment required to perform duties.
  • Ability to lead staff effectively.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to provide effective direction in safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
