Position Summary
The Dining Services Supervisor supports the daily front-of-house operations of Dining Services by assisting the Dining Room Manager and Dining Services Director with service oversight, staff support, training, floor leadership, and resident satisfaction initiatives. This role helps maintain service standards across the main dining room, bistro, bar, and designated assisted living dining operations. The DSS acts as a working leader who supports daily execution, reinforces expectations, assists with events, and provides leadership coverage in the absence of the DRM, including days off and vacation periods.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties are normal for this position. This list is not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Support the DRM and DSD in the daily operation of dining services front-of-house areas.
- Assist with supervising service staff in the main dining room, bistro, and bar to ensure consistent hospitality, professionalism, and service flow.
- Provide floor leadership during meal periods by monitoring section coverage, resident service, table maintenance, beverage service, and staff responsiveness.
- Serve as a visible leadership presence on the floor and help reinforce service expectations, dress code, professionalism, and daily accountability.
- Assist in training and orienting new dining staff on service procedures, side work, resident interaction, and front-of-house standards.
- Reinforce service standards through daily coaching and real-time feedback to improve consistency, hospitality, and team performance.
- Support service operations in Assisted Living, including meal flow, staffing support, resident satisfaction, table service quality, and communication with care or nursing teams as needed.
- Assist with service oversight for special events, theme meals, and catering functions, including set-up, service execution, staffing coordination, and breakdown.
Qualifications

Educational Requirements and Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 2 years of dining, restaurant, hospitality, or senior living food service experience preferred.
- Previous lead server, shift leader, or supervisory experience preferred.
- Ability to obtain Food Handler certification within required timeframe (if applicable).
- Experience working with older adults or in healthcare dining is helpful.
Core Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong understanding of dining room operations, service flow, and resident/customer service.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Willingness to work with the elderly in a senior living environment
- Effectively communicate with residents, guests, associates, and supervisors
- Must be able to work on all Holidays and for pre-planned special events
- Ability to train staff, reinforce standards, and lead by example.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing operational needs
- Availability to work weekends, holidays, and flexible shifts.
Environment Adaptability:
- Works primarily indoors in a climate-controlled setting
- Possible exposure to chemicals as identified in the MSDS Manual
