Job Overview

A successful shipping & receiving lead will direct overall shipping and receiving operations to ensure the accurate, timely, and efficient flow of product to our internal and external customers while maintaining the company's quality standards and customer delivery requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates exemplary leadership by consistently embodying a positive attitude.
  • Provide courteous and professional customer service when interacting with drivers, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
  • Operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment safely to load, unload, move, and stage materials throughout the warehouse and facility.
  • Receives incoming materials, components, and equipment deliveries.
  • Verifies the quality and count of all items unloaded from trucks and trailers.
  • Collaborate with the production team, customer service, and management to coordinate and communicate shipment status, delays, or any other relevant information.
  • Inspect and report any damage, discrepancies, or quality issues with received items and complete information on damage claims for in-transit damage as necessary.
  • Examine shipment contents and compare them with records, such as manifests, invoices, or orders, to verify accuracy.
  • Prepare documents, such as packing slips, bills of lading, or shipping orders, to route materials.
  • Contact carriers to make arrangements for shipping and delivery of items.
  • Develop and implement inventory control policies, procedures, and best practices to improve accuracy, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Reconcile inventory discrepancies and investigate root causes to prevent recurrence.
  • Conduct regular physical inventories and cycle counts to reconcile discrepancies between physical stock and system records.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient warehouse and shipping area, ensuring materials are stored properly and are easy to locate.
  • Serve as the project lead with year-end inventory, which includes scheduling, planning, and implementing the physical inventory process from start to finish.
  • Collaborate with common carrier companies to receive the lowest freight charges and best service.
  • All inbound freight is to be checked over for any damage and to be matched to the packing slip.
  • Inbound freight is to be delivered to the proper department.
  • Required to participate in physical inventory counts, which may include weekends.
  • Update inventory systems promptly and accurately, monitor stock levels, and report any discrepancies or issues with materials to the appropriate personnel.
  • Develop and implement cost-saving methods that would benefit the company.
  • Performs other duties as needed and assigned.

Physical Job Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

  • Frequent: Bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, lifting (up to 50 lbs), pushing, pulling, and moving items. Requires the ability to move around the warehouse and maneuver products when necessary
  • Frequent: Walking and Standing (up to but not limited to 8 hours). Requires moving around the warehouse to perform duties and assist the supervisor and/or coworker(s)
  • Visual requirements: ability to visually verify part accuracy and quality.
  • Identifying and reading reports, labels, and packing materials: Requires recognizing and identifying, and using necessary reports and other informational resources
  • Climbing Ladders: Requires being able to climb a rolling ladder, up to 10 feet
  • Use of equipment tools: including hand tools, power tools (i.e., saws), air-driven tools (i.e., staplers), and measuring devices (go/no go gages and calipers).
  • Ability to operate a forklift: upon completion of in-house certification.
  • Wear required safety equipment: when appropriate/necessary/required.
Work Environmental Job Requirements

The work environmental characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job.

  • Due to forklifts and/or other heavy equipment traveling through the warehouse, cracks may appear on the floor, causing uneven walking surfaces
  • In the warehouse environment, an employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles
  • The warehouse environment can be poorly lit at times
  • Floors around the work area may become slippery
  • Doors are frequently opened, causing drafts and interior temperature changes
  • Internal warehouse temperature can fluctuate (cold to warm) depending on weather conditions.
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate
  • Occasional weekends and holiday work time may be necessary
  • Mandatory adherence to safety policies, which often include wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, hearing protection, or steel-toed shoes when on the plant floor.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent, where advanced education is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5-years’ experience in manufacturing.
  • At least 2 years of experience with shipping / receiving in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in operating forklifts or other material handling equipment (valid forklift certification is a plus).
  • Ability to multitask and meet tight deadlines under pressure.
  • Strong aptitude in ERP systems and MS Office applications.
  • Sound decision-making and organizational skills
