Medical Escort-Days

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (copy required upon hire)
  • Valid New York State Driver’s License
  • Yearly physical (required within one month of hire)
  • Ability to work with a diverse population presenting a variety of cultural, socioeconomic, developmental, and sexual identities. Must have the ability and willingness to establish and foster healthy and supportive relationships that acknowledge individual identities and encourage personal growth.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working with adolescents in residential or healthcare settings
  • Proficiency in electronic health record systems

REQUIREMENTS

  1. Must successfully complete all required background checks:
  • NYS Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR)
  • Multi-State Sex Offender Registry (SOR)
  • NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) fingerprinting
  • NYS Justice Center Staff Exclusion List (SEL)
  • NYS OMIG Medicaid Exclusion List
  • Out-of-state child abuse register inquiry of any state in which the person resided within the last five years (if applicable)
  • NYS License Event Notification Service (LENS)
  • Office of Inspector General (OIG)
  1. Must successfully complete Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI)

HOURS

  • 40-hour work week, Monday through Friday, 8:00AM-5:00PM
  • Must be flexible to meet the needs of the program

SALARY

$24.00/hour

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to lift 25 lbs, assist with medical equipment, and move across campus buildings

OBJECTIVES OF THE POSITION

To support the delivery of coordinated, trauma-informed, and medically necessary care for youth placed in our 29-I VFCA Medical Clinic by facilitating safe and timely transportation to healthcare appointments, supporting communication between providers and internal clinic staff, and assisting with documentation and coordination of treatment-related tasks.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Maintain a courteous, respectful, and professional demeanor at all times when interacting with residents, internal staff, nursing and medical personnel, external healthcare providers, hospitals, parents, and other professionals involved in the coordination and delivery of resident medical care.
  2. Safely transport youth to off-campus medical, dental, and specialty appointments as scheduled by clinic staff
  3. Escort and supervise youth, offering emotional support and reinforcement of trauma-informed practices during medical visits
  4. Transport and return all required medical documentation (e.g., Transport Logs, Consult Sheets) to and from appointments; ensure forms are completed and routed appropriately for follow-up or filing
  5. Maintain working knowledge of each youth’s medical history and purpose for visit to advocate effectively during appointments
  6. Document external medical visit outcomes in the Electronic Health Record (Welligent) in accordance with Article 29-I requirements
  7. Support on-campus services, including Mobile Dental Van and preventative screenings (e.g., hearing, vision)
  8. Conduct monthly checks of on-campus AEDs. Change the defibrillator pads and batteries as scheduled or as indicated.
  9. Ensure agency vehicles used for transport are equipped with functioning safety equipment and follow agency safety standards
  10. Be prepared to work with independent healthcare providers on campus. Ex. Cayuga Medical Center Laboratory- blood draws.
  11. Attend clinic meetings, participate in training sessions, and support overall clinic operations
  12. Provides backup to the Patient Services Coordinator and/or Medical Office Assistant position.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned by the Medical Clinic Supervisor, Nursing Supervisor (s), and Physicians.
  14. Responsible for adhering to and performing all duties in accordance with every safety standard, practice, and policy of The William George Agency. This includes, but is not limited to, a review of The William George Agency Safety Policy and attendance at all required safety-related training.
  15. Adhere to all rules, regulations, policies, and philosophy of The William George Agency, the Office of Children and Family Services, and the Department of Health.

The William George Agency for Children’s Services is located on a 650-acre campus nine miles northeast of Ithaca, in the Finger Lakes Region of New York State. It is a private, not-for-profit residential treatment center licensed by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) that serves both male and female youth between the ages of 12 and 21, and their families, who present with significant mental health issues, behavioral difficulties, and substance abuse issues. Our programs offer an array of treatment modalities specifically designed to meet the needs of our youth.
