Summary: The Philanthropy Officer, Volunteer Engagement works to provide volunteer coordination services in support of the organization’s mission, vision, core values, and business imperatives. The Philanthropy Officer, Volunteer Engagement manages volunteer experiences that deepen engagement across the community and deepen knowledge about community issues and the work of the United Way.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Manages volunteer projects to help mobilize community members to improve the lives of people in need throughout Rhode Island through service; assists in the development and implementation of corporate, community and signature volunteer events that engage thousands of volunteers that drive impact, build relationships, and grow our donor base.
- Continuously assess volunteer needs with internal and external partners. Prioritize needs based on the ability to scale and design experiences that will engage volunteers to meet these needs.
- Lead volunteer engagement strategies and multi-year plans for existing and potential top corporate supporters. In addition, create pathways to convert corporate and community volunteers into donors.
- Plan and execute annual signature community volunteer initiatives that support United Way Rhode Island’s work, including building strategic communication and recruitment plans to meet volunteer goals.
- Continuously increase and adapt knowledge of community challenges and opportunities, and United Way Rhode Island’s work to illustrate the organization’s mission through volunteer engagement experiences.
- Provides quality customer service and relationship building with a wide range of constituents, including United Way team members, corporations, non-profit organizations, volunteers and community members, expanding community reach; establishes and fosters positive relationships with volunteers and community partners.
- Work with Development Operations to provide content to set up volunteering registration, help maintains volunteer tracking data; and serves as Andar support for volunteer engagement.
- Responsible for leading annual volunteer reporting to United Way Worldwide
- Works closely with the Advancement team to continuously improve processes to ensure the most efficient and effective use of resources and the best possible experience for our volunteers.
- Manages other special projects and reports as needed.
Equity Growth Plan:
- Develop and implement a personalized, individual equity growth plan.
- Participate in annual equity training.
- Support UWRI initiatives (e.g., Equity Challenge) and participate/ agency groups (e.g., Heritage and Professionals, Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) and Culture, Equity and Strengths Committee (CES).
- Participate in community, state or national (e.g., United Way Worldwide) equity growth opportunities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required
- 2-5 years’ experience in volunteer and/or program management and coordination skills required. Candidate should have the ability to think strategically and conceptually.
- Excellent inter-personal and promotional skills as well as written and verbal communications skills. Ability to make short presentations to volunteering groups required.
- Event planning skills with ability to work well with cross-functional and multi-level teams.
- Must be well organized, detail oriented, able to multi-task, persistent in follow-up and meeting tight deadlines.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite including Teams and large database systems. CRM experience preferred. Will also assist in the management of the Volunteer Center platform.
- Must have reliable transportation, as this job requires traveling to and from volunteer events, partnership meetings, events, and media opportunities that involve driving, walking, and/or carrying small packages and materials. From time to time, position will require commitment to evening and weekend hours
- Ability to communicate in Spanish is an asset.
