Position OverviewThe Recreation Park Aid serves as an on-site representative of the Recreation and Parks Department. Responsibilities include leading and supervising recreation activities, monitoring park facilities, assisting with events, and ensuring compliance with policies and safety standards.
Assignments may vary by season or program need and may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Key ResponsibilitiesAssist with organizing, setting up, and facilitating recreational programs, camps, athletic leagues, and community events
Lead, instruct, and supervise activities for children (ages 4–17), adults, and individuals with disabilities
Coach and facilitate sports leagues and free-play activities in a safe and inclusive environment
Monitor park and facility use; enforce program rules and park regulations
Prepare and maintain facilities, fields, and equipment, including setup, breakdown, cleaning, and trash removal
Maintain restroom cleanliness and general facility upkeep
Serve as a point of contact for park patrons, participants, parents, and community members
Resolve conflicts and address issues in a professional manner
Complete accident and incident reports in a timely fashion
Assist with clerical tasks including collecting and filing waivers, medical forms, and parent contact information
Safely transport participants in a passenger van for field trips (as assigned)
Attend departmental training, including first aid procedures
High School Diploma or GED
Minimum age 18 for recreation and event assignments; 21 for facility/park ambassador assignments
Valid Georgia driver’s license with acceptable driving history
Ability to lead and engage diverse groups in recreational and athletic activities
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Must pass a criminal background check, drug screening, and (if applicable) driving record check
CPR/First Aid certification (may be required depending on assignment)
Experience working with youth, recreation programs, coaching, camps, events, individuals with disabilities, or facility supervision
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors at parks, recreation facilities, camps, and event sites. Employees may be exposed to varying weather conditions and noise levels.
May require lifting or moving up to 25 pounds
Requires standing, walking, bending, lifting, and repetitive movement
Approximately 5% travel between recreation sites
Schedules may include evenings, weekends, and holidays
Employment status may be part-time, seasonal, or full-time depending on program needs. Part-time positions are limited to 29 hours per week. Seasonal employees may work up to 40 hours per week with no guarantee of permanent status or benefits.
