About the Role

The Yard Team Lead plays a critical leadership role in ensuring that all customer orders are accurately, safely, and efficiently prepared for delivery or pickup. In addition to building and organizing loads, this position provides day-to-day direction to the yard and loading team, setting the standard for quality, safety, and productivity.

This individual oversees load accuracy, proper securement, and workflow coordination while serving as a point of contact between the yard team, sales staff, dispatch, and management. Strong attention to detail, safety awareness, and leadership presence are essential.

A background in building, construction, or job-site experience is highly valued, as it supports accurate material staging and a deeper understanding of how products are used in the field.

The success of this role directly impacts customer satisfaction, job-site efficiency, and overall operational performance.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a warehouse, yard, logistics, or building materials environment
  • Demonstrated leadership ability or experience overseeing team members
  • Ability to lift heavy materials and perform physical tasks in an outdoor environment
  • Strong understanding of workplace safety standards


Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in construction, carpentry, framing, or general building trades
  • Forklift certification and experience operating heavy equipment
  • Experience in shipping, receiving, and load securement
  • Familiarity with building materials and job-site staging best practices


Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Oversight

  • Provide daily direction and support to load builders and yard staff
  • Monitor workflow to ensure timely and accurate order fulfillment
  • Train new team members on load-building procedures and safety standards
  • Lead by example in professionalism, safety, and productivity
  • Communicate priorities between sales, dispatch, and yard teams


Load Building & Quality Control

  • Oversee assembly and organization of product loads according to customer orders
  • Verify quantities, product condition, and labeling accuracy before shipment
  • Ensure loads are safely secured for transport
  • Anticipate material needs based on job type and sequence when possible


Operational Excellence

  • Maintain yard organization and efficient space utilization
  • Identify and implement process improvements
  • Monitor inventory discrepancies and report issues promptly
  • Promote and enforce safety compliance and housekeeping standards


Skills & Competencies

  • Strong leadership and team coordination skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Working knowledge of building materials and construction practices
